pahunkboy -> my property tax bill came! (7/31/2011 7:36:06 AM)

Hello from my opulent palatial under-assessed estate.   HA!

Brag MF. And make sure to get an olympic size swimming pool and a central air unit that would do a Kmart. A couple of Benz' or Mazeratis in the driveway might help as well.

Then you can be broke like most other people.

T^T

I guess I should feel lucky... one guy on another board said he had a 50% rise.    Mine was 10-15% depending on how you measure it.    I got a bigger increase then 2 of my neighbors-  because I am a corner lot which is also abit bigger with a carport.       That is the thing-  the fed budget will push costs onto the states who will push costs onto the local - who will push costs onto the household.    People gotta know that even when you rent-  the taxes are part of the rent.        I think the guy across the street will be in for a shock - he has a double corner lot and a garage.  So his increase will hurt.

I have zero intention of ever owning a house. I already get hit hard in income tax by the great state of Nebraska (highest of any place I've ever lived). For having the temerity to be a single man, they put it to me extra hard. Nebraska's property tax is well known and feared.

well, has your property dropped in value? or not fairly valued compared to other similar properties? if so then perhaps you should contest it, if you are able to (in some areas you have only a short window of opportunity to do that tho)..

and yes, renters pay property tax indirectly regardless..

do you like your corner lot? I avoid them since in the places i have looked, they seem to be more restrictions on where you can build your house and place your fence and the height of the fence (meaning potentially less privacy from driving by lookie loos)...

Yes-  I like a corner lot.

I had fought the assessment 2x.  Once I won- the 2nd time I dropped it.

TJ,   the house is already built.  I have more parking then most do here.   The town will allow a 6 foot privacy fence.   I let a portion of my yard- be "re-forested".    That is allowed too.   I can see out the house- but with my forest it is hard for others to see in.   lol

yes, i know on your property the house is already built, thats why i asked. [:)]
I looked at a few corner lot properties before but they were undeveloped lots so a house would have had to be built on it. With those in that city, they restricted the fence height to 4 feet which is one thing I didnt like and the setbacks were too far so use of the lot for what I wanted was reduced. But that was just for what I wanted, likely that would be fine for most other people tho.

I dont think I would ever have a house built.   Too much can go wrong.   You really do have to watch town zoning laws and so forth.  Also assessments for schools, sidewalks- water and sewer and other items.  I had to move in a hurry when I moved here- so it was not my first choice-- but I did all right.

I think PA is notorious for under assessing some properties while over assessing others. I have a tiny piece of property which my house pretty much eats up--no yard to speak of. Until 2 years ago, my taxes were as high as my mother's who had 4x as much property, a bigger house in a better neighborhood, 1-1/2 baths, a pool, garage. I had my property reassessed when it became solely mine after my grandmother's death.

I agree!   I looked at ALOT of houses- and was amazed at just how random the tax bills are.

I do think mine is now proper- maybe even a tad lower-  tho in disrepair.   The mils went up-  so that is the rub.     My lot IS bigger- and a corner lot.  So I wont have the lowest assessment on the block.    And frankly those houses that are right up against another house- do not have the same value to me.

Feng Shui wise- this place has some good attributes- which includes a southern exposure.

I am glad I fight the tax when I first moved in.    They always go up - so I am glad I did.

Pahunky...just escrow your tax monthly......I do...it is way better to put 10 (example there) away a month than come up with 100 at the end of the tax year.....

ArizonaBossMan -> RE: my property tax bill came! (8/2/2011 6:52:09 AM)

you own property? that now belongs to the state. dear leader knows what's best for you and the people. turn it over today to the government or tomorrow will come and not be so nice to you rich folks.

mnottertail -> RE: my property tax bill came! (8/2/2011 6:59:30 AM)

Property taxes are township, county and state run affairs, Dear Leader doesn't send those bills.

ABM must not own property, or he would know this. My grandmother may have given me her house, but I paid taxes on it when I inherited it--several thousand dollars that I had to come up with at a moment's notice. And at the time I was still on SSI, so I'm thankful I had always put a few dollars into savings.

Hello.  I already do that.  It is the ONLY way.   So now my payment will go up.   The funny thing is that my cost will still be lower then renting even a modest place.    (as in smaller)

I do get 2 of the exemptions here-  Hopefully that state continues that!!  Otherwise I am very screwed- as are most of this town.    PA casinos and lottery - funds go to reduce property taxes.  Casino funds are up.   Somehow tho some towns get more of a rebate then others.
