I received the following email from my employer this morning. I have edited to remover references specific companies:

quote:

Dear Employees of (Company Name),

An unforeseeable event has impacted the normal timing of payroll check deposits for the July 28 payroll, however it is anticipated that most funds will be deposited into employee accounts on Thursday, the payroll date, with some exceptions due to how individual banks receive deposits into individual accounts that may cause some account deposits to be recorded on Friday.
Today we discovered that in accordance with monitoring and securing United States assets and to ensure compliance with U.S. Treasury Department Regulations, the movement of capital through the United States banking system may be periodically inspected by Office of Foreign Assets Compliance (OFAC). The wire transfer of the Company’s cash to (Payroll Provider Company Name) “our payroll provider” was selected today by the OFAC to analyze its compliance and the payment was held until their compliance check was finalized. We did not become aware the (Company Name) payroll wire was selected and held until this afternoon and as such the normal timing of the deposit of funds into your account did not occur with its usual timing. This afternoon (Payroll Provider Company Name) however graciously released cash to our employee’s banks despite not having received the funds yet from (Bank Name).

We are truly sorry about any inconvenience this may potentially cause you.

Please contact me directly with any questions or concerns.

Best regards,

(Company Payroll Director)

What kind of BS is that where the Federal government can simply step in whenever it chooses and prevent people from being paid? The company I work for is a private US corporation and having the US Treasury come along and block the employees from getting paid is an outrage.

If Congress wants to cut expenditures I recommend they start with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) which is an agency of the Treasury that is violating my rights as an American citizen.

I found that on another board.

PWNED!

More details here.

A flushing toilet?

Meds aren't working too well are they?

take more!

Termyn8or -> RE: Foreign Assets Control Intercepting Private Payroll Checks. (7/31/2011 6:45:35 AM)

Money. The government wants banks to have money, that is obvious. So now with alot of people [forced into] using direct deposit, automatic bill paying should generate some nice overdraft fees and such.

It's just another example of the totally benign (yeah right) "cooperation" between the "partners" operating big business and government. Kinda gets ya right here (pointing to testicles) doesn't it ?

Ponder for a moment how they had to butcher the law (constitution) et al to pull this off!   I doubt anyone here realizes what the ramifications behind it.   Pay particular attention to the word in red.

Termyn8or -> RE: Foreign Assets Control Intercepting Private Payroll Checks. (7/31/2011 7:10:58 AM)

Maybe, maybe not. It may be that the company is based offshore, or even just their payroll department. Not saying that's a good thing, but it might have something to do with it.

The Constitution is easy, just redefine the words. That's what they have the courts for.

Impressive when the conservatives utterly fail to provide basic levels of information to the discussion. Neither RO or Termie explains what the Office of Foreign Assets Compliance Actually is or What it exists to do. Good job on the the tinfoil hats guys, they look smashing on you!

If you think Termie or R0 are "conservatives" then you are the one that fails to understand basic levels of information.

Firm, you win the award for the ambiguous post of the day.

To me it doesn't matter if the company is offshore, or if this has something to do with the fact that just about all the money here is borrowed. And it also doesn't matter to me if you think we are tinfoil hatters or that folk like us bear no resemblance to the "neo" conservatives who seem hell bent on turning this country into Bangldesh.

As such I am not asking for cralification, I am just enjoying the ambiguity. It goes well with irony and sarcasm but has a much more mellow flavor. Don't wreck it by saying what you really mean :-)

Isn't it amazing that you know so many things no one else realizes?

there is nothing the least bit ambiguous about it. You and RO are not conservatives by any stretch of the imagination.

See, we can agree on some things.

RO is making a claim based on some guys claim on a political website. Move on, nothing to see here folks.

Termyn8or -> RE: Foreign Assets Control Intercepting Private Payroll Checks. (7/31/2011 5:17:06 PM)

Move on, nothing to see here folks is a phrase used by people who don't want people to see what THERE IS to see here.

With your location I could tell you what channel Fox news is on there.

And wilbeur, you are absolutely right, I have no association with the fucking dregs who try to call themselves conservatives. They and you have no fucking idea what that really means.

But I am not wasting my ketstrokes on people who know everything. So revel in your fucking omnipotence.

I think you meant omniscience. Dictionaries are your friends, as is psychopharmacology.

There is nothing to see, If you feel there is then good for you. The Op is just posting something that someone else claims to have got in the mail. You would think that if a whole company of employees had had the same email, it would be all over the net.

Anyhow Termy, thankfully I dont get Fox news.
