Hold on, are you saying that you noticed the difference between tinfoil hats and aluminum ?

Now I am going to have to look that up.

T^T

The humidity will make ANY smell worse.

Let a teenager wear them for a week and then you won't notice the smell of piss any more.

I inadvertently closed the door to the room that I keep Bubba's crap box in and went to bed the other night.
He pissed on my LL Bean shorts and I washed them twice and they're ok.
He also pissed in my sneakers (he must have been pissed!) and I put them in the machine twice and let them soak for an hour and they still smell like piss!
How do I get rid of that smell?

Throw them away and buy a new pair. From all the bragging I've read from you over the years, you can afford it. Call it a lesson learned.

Put more water in your jamesons and remember the way to the bathroom!

Douse them with peroxide...urine is a biologic....it will fizz away any remaining biological material on the sneakers, then just rinse and they will be fine. The ingredient in most products to remove urine is peroxide. It is just cheaper to go buy it in a big bottle in the Dollar store than pay extra for the other stuff. It even gets rid of the strongest male cat spray smell.

"Douse them with peroxide"

Wow, I forgot all about peroxide. I've seen it take blood stains out of white carpet.

T^T

Lucylastic -> RE: How do I get cat piss smell out of my sneakers? (7/31/2011 2:56:57 PM)

coke(as in cola) does tooo...wonderful on fresh blood stains

Muttling -> RE: How do I get cat piss smell out of my sneakers? (7/31/2011 3:08:53 PM)

You folks seem to know an awful lot about cleaning up blood, does the peroxide and cola dry before the police arrive?

"And Termy may be an acquired taste, but he's 100% original. His posts tend towards tin foil hat crazy, except when he's so right you want to weep. "

There are no tinfoil hats. It's aluminum foil now, tin is too expensive.

And really, if I weren't original the world would be in a hell of alot of trouble. Oh wait, it is. See how I forget things ?

T^T
Well, aluminum foil's fixin to become quite pricey, that bastard PaHunk is cornering the market on aluminum now.

Popeye owns the reincarnation of Fat Freddy's Cat. Just be happy the cat didn't shit in your headphones.

popeye1250 -> RE: How do I get cat piss smell out of my sneakers? (7/31/2011 5:26:13 PM)

"Tin foil" is a slang term for aluminum foil from the 1950's.
Both terms mean the same thing.
And there's no tin in it.

I agree. Saturate, let dry, repeat until smell is gone. It works. Or try the recipe listed here if plain peroxide isn't enough:

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon of liquid soap
Gently mix all ingredients in a non-metal container. Do not mix or shake vigorously!

The mixture is best used when fresh but can be stored. Do not keep mixture in an airtight container as baking soda and hydrogen peroxide when mixed together release loads of oxygen. We don't want an explosion on our hands on top of the mess we already have!

I mix and keep mine in a large spray bottle I bought from Home Depot but on old plastic liter soda bottle works just a well. Just remember to keep the cap on loose.

3% hydrogen peroxide can be bought at most grocery and drug stores in pint and quart bottles.

Caution:

Surfaces that are porous may swell e.g. drywall, wood flooring, particle board, etc. with application of this recipe. But if your surface is already ruined by cat urine and you want to get rid of the odor until you can replace it - give it a try.
Always test for color-fastness when using first. Apply to a small area and wait 24-48 hours until dry before using on an entire area. Hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent in stronger concentrations (think teeth whiteners) and can lighten materials that are not color-fast.

I remember a guy threw up in the hall of a low class (two star) hotel where I was staying a few days a few years back. The smell was fucking rank a few doors down, and nothing the cleaners did could stop it - it was almost supernatural.

Termyn8or -> RE: How do I get cat piss smell out of my sneakers? (7/31/2011 11:31:01 PM)

"coke(as in cola) does tooo...wonderful on fresh blood stains "

Thank you for that VERY VERY useful information. Much cheaper than peroxide. Now that I think of it my Mother drinks Coke and buys it in volume. (my sinister works in the main office of a MAJOR retailer and gets a really good discount)

And I'm glad that you cleared it up that it's not Coke as in cocaine. I don't even know where to get that shit anymore. If I went looking I would probably get Draino. (wonder if that's any good for the head lol). But the Cocacola I got covered. Mom would give me ANYTHING to drink but beer. Well whiskey either but........

Now if I could get some Cocacola bottled before 1932............

"Do not keep mixture in an airtight container as baking soda and hydrogen peroxide when mixed together release loads of oxygen. We don't want an explosion on our hands"

Oxygen just makes things burn. I mean burn, I mean things that would never normally burn like steel, rocks and shit. It's hydrogen that blows up. When that spaceship blew up years ago because of oxygen it was because it was in so small of a space.

Oh wait. That was bigger than a coffee can.

Well it would probably only be a small explosion. Just don't be in the coffee can.

But that doesn't change the fact that if you don't like oxygen, just stay completely away from hydrogen.
