Lucylastic -> Marriage in NY today, Congrats (7/24/2011 10:29:56 AM)

http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/07/24/new.york.same.sex.marriage/index.html

A city official married the first couple in New York City to wed under the state's new law allowing same-sex marriage Sunday.
Phyllis Siegal, 76, and Connie Kopelov, 84, were married in a chapel at the city clerk's office as a crowd of onlookers cheered.
The two, of New York, have been together for 23 years. Kopelov left the clerk's office in a wheelchair, but used a walker to approach reporters.
764 marriages in one day??
Now I can handle that level of love n devotion,
some good news to go up against the class attacks in other posts
I know which one Im focussing on for the rest of the day

Hooray for dear old NY (my home state).

Such a normal thing so long denied for no good reason. I hope the obvious joy softens some hearts.

Together 23 years, finally able to marry. That's wonderful.

heh the article struck me deep. My godmothers are 78 and 77 and have been together since 1960...and I thought about them when I saw the other couple getting married. Its nothing unusual here so much but I feel for all the couples who wanted to marry and coulnt until today, its making me smile hugely.

Congrats to the happily married couples...and to my state, which thanks to some Republican state senators with a conscious.....voted that conscious...and decided to let the chips fall where they may as far as the voters are concerned. They did what they felt was right, political implications be dammed. Now if we could get some Republican congressman act in the same fashion.
And by the way servant.....yes whoop de do.....somehow I feel you are being sarcastic, yet to those married today it is a case of whoop di do [:)]

764 happy couples today. Along with that bliss come the legal ramnifications that go along with it. I have to wonder how many of these couples will find themselves in divorce court a year or so from now. 1/2 of everything takes on a whole new meaning.

As opposed to the half of traditional newly married couples ?How is it that divorce all of a sudden throws a wet blanket on marriage day....it has never before, now because they are same sex couples we should consider this when celebrating their ability to marry...try being less of an asshole someday servant. There is no need to lead the league in that category [8|]

There is an old saying, Be careful what you wish for. Now they have just what they have been wishing for. I say good luck to them all.

I think the number will be small, certainly smaller than the national average. Most people who want to get married don't have to jump through hoops. It's easy so giving up on such an easy marriage is no biggie. Working so hard to be able to marry your love.. well, blood, sweat and tears make for a pretty good cement mix in a marriage that you had to fight just to have.. we'll see though. I'm optimistic.

Congratulations to all of those happy couples.  To be honest, I wasn't really sure that I would see this in My lifetime.

Quit raining on the parade, dear.  Weddings are supposed to be happy occasions.

All I did was make a simple statement. Now I'm get a message on the other side saying it was wrong that I have a pool in my yard. Where did that come from ? Good grief.

After 4 years same sex marriage has had no effect on the divorce rate in MA which it happens is the lowest rate in the nation.
