I recently read a book called 19 Minutes which is about a boy who is bullied all his life and ends up shooting walking into school and killing almost all the kids who bullied him so relentlessly. The "voice" changes with each chapter so we get inside his head as well as those of some of those who survive, his lawyer, the prosecutor, etc. It's fiction but because it's so well researched it's easy to forget that.

We need to teach kids how to fight again. That way if they have a dissagreement they take it behind the school, punch each other up and that afternoon they're walking home together friends again.

Rubbish.

LadyPact -> RE: Serial bullies (7/24/2011 1:20:11 PM)

Now that I think of it, can you really bully those who want  to be bullied?

(It's still a BDSM site, folks.)

lazarus1983 -> RE: Serial bullies (7/24/2011 1:26:14 PM)

If we are to broaden the scope of the term bullying to encompass things like manipulation, then yes.

However I don't agree with that, and believe there are distinctions. If not, then suggestive selling is bullying.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Serial bullies (7/24/2011 1:28:36 PM)

Well, now that you noticed me, can I stop having nuclear meltdowns?

lazarus1983 -> RE: Serial bullies (7/24/2011 1:30:09 PM)

Why were you having nuclear meltdowns to begin with?

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Serial bullies (7/24/2011 1:31:00 PM)

Damn you can bully me any day, LP [8D]

LadyPact -> RE: Serial bullies (7/24/2011 1:31:05 PM)

Well, now I have the wheels turning.

Much of this depends on perspective.  Take a kink like humiliation.  Couldn't that be interpreted as bullying, in a sense?  I'm thinking something like cuckolding would definitely qualify.  Emotional sadism/masochism?  Definitely.

lazarus1983 -> RE: Serial bullies (7/24/2011 1:36:00 PM)

Well first off I misread your initial post.

I think the difference between what the article is saying and your examples is that the 'victim' in your examples has eithrr given some level of consent, and is aware of these activities, obviously. The 'victim' from the articles is most likely not aware that they're being manipulated through whatever means, and has not given any kind of consent, implied or outright.

Why on earth would anybody want to be mean to Cheerios?

Must you make a joke out of everything? It's really tiresome.

Seems to be the only purpose of the profile.....shrugs,different strokes and all that,though I did on one thread in Politics and Religion complain about it.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Serial bullies (7/24/2011 1:38:33 PM)

No worries mike, I've hidden them. Things are better now.

I wasn't really, I was practising and found them a bit too exhausting, plus I laugh so hard that it's difficult to not have wet accidents...

The article is more focused on being bullied in the workplace.  In such situations, the imbalance of power is real, not implied.  A supervisor definitely has it.  Even those who train new employees have it by extension.

Depending on the dynamic, this is a power of a Dominant as well.  Consent is given there, isn't it?

littlewonder -> RE: Serial bullies (7/24/2011 1:51:24 PM)

I didn't read the article but I'm of the opinion that bullying has become the new trend to use as an excuse by people who can't cope with their own lives and need to blame their own problems on the rest of the world.

"Oh woe is me! I was bullied all my life and that's why you should feel sorry for me and why I have all the problems I do...blah blah blah.".

The problem with that is kids no longer fight with fists but with guns.

I think bullying is pretty terrible, but if it happens over and over again, in different environments, with different people and it's regular like clockwork, then chances are that you aren't bullied, but that you're a complete arse and people let you know, instead of taking a good look at yourself, you call it bullying and play the victim - cheap and easy way out, anybody with half a brain would recognize that the one common denominator is yourself.

Something happening once - life, something happening twice - bad luck, something happening trice - maybe really shit luck but time to take a good hard look what I might be doing wrong, more than that - definitely time to analyze my own behaviour and possibly change it!

Uhm .. interesting article. I just read a very good description of almost everyone I've met on this site, and, most other sites. Not everyone, mind you, but, most everyone

And, no, I am not saying everyone on this site or all other sites are bullies. I haven't met everyone. I think it's more that the bullies go out of their way to be met. lol

Who'd like a go at quantifying this?

personality disorder test
