My garden was basically decimated by rabbits this year. =p I moved and really had no idea what to expect from rabbits; most neighborhoods here have a lot of them, but this particular neighborhood is infested. I like rabbits, but i've had it with them. hahaha
So next year, now that I know what i'm up against, I want to find some kind of way to keep them out. I had garden fencing but they chewed through it repeatedly.

Do you have an tried-n-true methods of keeping rabbits away? Any recommendations?

I also know that there's a breeding pair basically churning them out by the dozen under my shed. I've thought about filling in the space with cement so that they can't live under there anymore. (Plus, that would keep water from building up under there and rotting away the wooden floor.)

Tough problem and one I have not resolved w/o getting rid of the rabbits. So sure, make them homeless, see if that helps. Fencing will not do a thing. Any fencing good enough to deter a rabbit will deter you from maintaining your garden, or at least that has been my experience.

You could try planting them a shitload of lettuce and see if they leave the rest of the garden alone?

This is what I have done and it mostly works.

There are humane traps you can put down which catch them alive and well, if a bit scared, then you can get someone round to shoot them in a little cage

I found having 6 cats stopped that problem, but might be a tad extreme.[:D]

I was able to construct a "rabbit proof" fence, apparently, since I have had no rabbits in my garden.  It is field fencing, built to hug the ground.  I also have three dogs.
I have read from time to time that scattering blood meal around your garden area can help.  Garden stores also sell things that are supposed to repel them, not sure how well they work, though.

go to the barber shop and get hair.  spread it all around, most animals dont dig the human hormone. You have to replace it every so often, like every week.

Irish Spring works great for deer; might as well try it for rabbits.  This is the method Mom uses; another site suggested shavings:

i may try planting the lettuce to see if that will preoccupy them.
field fencing; i was going to try that (i have a friend who gets a bunch when it's discarded, so it would be free) but i thought the openings were still too wide to keep out bunnies.

hopefully homelessness will send them elsewhere, too -- filling that space under the shed is a definite plan.

hopefully next year, now that i know the true power of the bunny menace, i can deal with them accordingly. =p my grocery bill has been supplemented by a garden since i moved here (i helped a friend with hers and she shared with me), but this year, it just didn't work out. new neighborhood, new bunnies to deal with.
