I do think this is a fantastic site its amazing how like minded people can chat and be friends world wide when only a few years ago people of the bdsm kink felt isolated and different i will never take this form of communication for granted its opened up a new world as well as making new exciting friends.x

At the same time, some of us take the definition of the word "friend" a bit more literally than the new wave Facebook meaning that it has become.  I literally don't consider every single person who is interested in kink a "friend" any more than I would just because they also happened to have the same favorite color.

I've been fortunate to make a number of friends through this website.  However, they didn't become friends of Mine just because they happened to be on the same net link.  I like them for who they are.  Kinky just happens to be a part of that.

I have to say I agree with LadyP that everyone on the site is not my friend, but I have made a lot of friendly acquaintances I would never have had the opportunity to make otherwise. And I have learned so very much from this site, I have an incredible resource available to me. It's not just the boards, but also the connections we make.

For example, I am certain that if just about anybody on here wrote LadyP with an honest question that they, for whatever reason, did not wish to ask openly on the boards, that she would provide them with the benefit of her experience. That is something I simply would never have had available to me without this site.

So a friendly acquaintance is a perfectly good thing to be.

This fits my thoghts very well also.

I don't necessarily see any of the people here as friends because to ME, friends take more of an investment than I can give to communicate via the net. Especially right now. It's nothing against the people here, even those I actually like, it's just a fact of life. The people that are actually a part of my life, family, co-workers, friends I can actually hug.........they will always have priority. And since my time is limited I have to be realistic. So yes, friendly aquaintances fits quite well.

ChasteDream -> RE: friendship (7/20/2011 10:53:41 AM)

Yep; I agrees with yez all! I must have a million fb 'friends', (possibly one or two fewer), but on a bad day, no one on whose shoulder I'm going to cry. The scene tends to be sometwhat similar. Its a bit like coming out as gay; just because you share a sexual orientation with someone doesn't mean they want to swap spit or other bodily fluids with you, and certainly doesn't make them like or understand you enough as an individual to really be entitled to be called your friend. Online or virtual friend, anyone?

I DO like the suggestion of writing in to LadyPact with our questions and problems tho! Would it be best to begin these : Dear auntie LadyPact??

Actually, HMcL, that was an evil suggestion! Betcha LP is on her way over to knock on your door right now!!

SimplyMichael -> RE: I Admit It I........ (7/21/2011 6:09:00 AM)

This site helped me meet real people in real life who i never would have met otherwise. I met one of the great loves of my life here, a woman who had and still has a profound impact on my personal growth.

I have met people like LadyP at our dear mutual friends, an amazing M/s couple, MercnBeth, who used to be prolific posters. Leadership527 and i would never had met and because of this site, we got a year of hanging out at his house drinking coffee and laughing about CM! If i don't mention Wyldheart i will never get my own bathrobe nor the good room ever again, lol! I have met many others but i have met the irrepressible SunshineMiss before she left for Korea. Anyone who i have left out, it cause i am an insensitive jerk, lol.

Others like Archer and Elegant who are involved in the national leather scene. I will never forget walking into her class on communication at a major event, only knowing her from here and she instantly recognized me and half jokingly said i should take over this class. I have met many other posters here as well, too many to list them all.

Others i know only from here but meeting them is on my bucket list, like KnighofMists and his women.

I did not see anything in the OP that gave the impression that every person on this site was automatically their friend...it came off as excited at the potential to make many new friends...

I like posting on the forum, and there are a few people I would like to get better acquainted with here. I have made a few enduring friendships over the internet, but that is just my experience.

Quit that.  It's already been mentioned in our house a few times.  [8D]
