Hi kitty lovers,

My mom recently adopted a kitten (2 mos) for my kids to take care of and play with. My mom's home is attached to mine, so essentially, the kitten spends all her time at my mom's, but the kids go over there all the time to play with it and take care of it. The main caretaker is my older one, who is almost 13. Very type A, very responsible.

Miss type A is very concerned when she sees kitty tired or unwilling to play. She (the kitty) had a round of shots a few days ago, and my daughter is very concerned her behavior has changed because of the shots. I know kittens sleep a lot, and I know they don't always want to play, but heaven forbid Miss type A take my word for it.

My question is, what is considered average behavior for a 2 month, healthy kitten? She is getting high quality food and lots of attention. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

peach

A shot killed my friends cat.   The vet refunded her money.

Cats have different personalities.    Look for OTHER symptoms other then sleeping.   Check her eyes, ears, and mouth - to see if it looks normal.  Make sure she is peeing, and eating, drinking.

It is perfectly normal for a kitten to not want to play all the time.

another thing you could do is call the vet that gave the cat shots and ask them...

This, plus getting the shots means that kitty is getting vaccination, a mild infection so she'll be immune against whatever you vaccinated kitty for, still a bit of a strain on her system and she'll possibly sleep more, my cats are about 5 years old and when they get their yearly shots they're also a bit off peak for a few days after the shots, same with the dogs.

(Now can that blasted train finally arrive so I can make my way home, grrrr gotta love British Rail and Virgin trains...)

a cat and /or kitten have their own time table and screw what any other creatures have to say about it
the problem with a kitten is that they always grow into a cat

Not if you give them coffee.

Do you remember when your kids got their vaccinations when they were very small? They would sometimes be a bit feverish or tired for a few days after... same thing with the kitten.

At this point-  do not make the cat dizzy.   Make sure she is in AC too.

LOL I'm eternally thankful for that, it means that Maggie has finally stopped chewing wires and all my shoelaces.

OP, I wouldn't worry about it. Tell Ms type A to let the kitten sleep 1) it needs lots of sleep at that age and 2) yeah the shots will make it sleepy.

thanks zephyr and everyone else. the kitty is doing fine and Miss type A is learning that she has to just relax about letting the kitty do what it wants.

My cat Bubba sometimes gets those "wet eyes" tearing that drips onto his fur, what causes that?
It seems to go away all by itself.

You are the mom of a thirteen year old. The sooner you realize you are dumber than bait the easier life will be.
