It's Official: The Whole World Thinks Republicans Are Dangerous Maniacs Threatening Everyone

quote:

"Playing poker is part of politics, as is theatrical posturing. That's fair enough. But what America is currently exhibiting is the worst kind of absurd theatrics. And the whole world is being held hostage.

"Irrespective of what the correct fiscal and economic policy should be for the most powerful country on earth, it's simply not possible to stop taking on new debt overnight. Most importantly, the Republicans have turned a dispute over a technicality into a religious war, which no longer has any relation to a reasonable dispute between the elected government and the opposition."

Of course, Germans hate the American Republican Party and love the American Democratic Party, right?

Default would not only mean the collapse of the United States' economy, but would likely lead to the collapse of the economies of many other countries as well.

I think the Republicans already know it is backfiring on them.

But it's like getting into an argument when you realize you are wrong but keep arguing to save face.

GOP's Debt Debt Kamikazes

quote:

Call them Debt Ceiling Deniers. Believers in faith-based fiscal policy. Math-challenged cause-and-effect-skeptics. And an uncomfortable chunk of the GOP’s 2012 contenders.

The costs of courting conservative populists should be clearer than ever to reality-based fiscal conservatives inside the Republican Party. Their “all-or-nothing” meets “what, me worry?” negotiating stance is not only the newest symbol of D.C.’s dysfunction — it is beginning to have an impact on the entire U.S. economy...

Michele Bachmann believes it’s all a hoax. Tim Pawlenty told an Iowa crowd, “I hope and pray and believe they should not raise the debt ceiling.” Ron Paul based his first presidential ad on a call to not raise the debt ceiling, proclaiming “No Deals.” And Rick Santorum has said that raising the debt ceiling should be avoided until a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution is passed.

This position is a long way from saying the vote to raise the debt ceiling should be contingent on a deal to reduce the deficit and the debt. It is not looking for leverage or savvy negotiation on the way to a settlement. Instead, it is prideful ignorance — an eagerness to go off the fiscal cliff to show the world that gravity does not exist.

The fact that defaulting on our debt would raise interest rates — deepening the fiscal hole we’re in by compounding the size of our deficit and debt overnight — is not addressed. Instead we are greeted with nihilistic bubble talk—at its best, economic incompetence and at its worst evidence of tactical Leninism — the belief that “the worse things get, the better they are for me politically.”...

The debt-ceiling deniers could be dismissed as just another branch of the conservative populist tribe at war with modernity. Except this time the enemy isn’t science — it’s math. And international markets don’t respond well to denial.

The growing popularity of this position among the 2012 contenders should cause real fiscal conservatives in the GOP to take a hard look in the mirror — because the conservative populists they have helped empower for short-term political gain are making long-term fiscally responsible governance almost impossible.

Message to the GOP from the book of Hosea (Chapter 8, verse 7) of the Old Testament of the Bible:

quote:

They have planted the wind and will harvest the whirlwind. The stalks of grain wither and produce nothing to eat. And even if there is any grain, foreigners will eat it.

Random thought: Why is it that many (but not all) deficit-deniers are also climate change-deniers, and some (but not all) are also Holocaust-deniers? Is there a connection/pattern?

Climate change and long term economic issues are not relevant when the Rapture is right around the corner?

Like when Jim Watt, Saint Ronnie Reagan's Secretary of the Interior, said that, since the End of the World/Rapture/Final Judgment was going to happen any day, we didn't need any laws to protect the environment or endangered animal and plant species?

More succintly:

Cleaning up where you shit is for pussies!!!!

The GOP.

Contrast that philosophy with this:

Seven generation sustainability is an ecological concept that urges the current generation of humans to live sustainably and work for the benefit of the seventh generation into the future.[1] It originated with the Iroquois - Great Law of the Iroquois - which holds appropriate to think seven generations ahead (a couple hundred years into the future) and decide whether the decisions they make today would benefit their children seven generations into the future. "In every deliberation, we must consider the impact on the seventh generation... even if it requires having skin as thick as the bark of a pine."

FirstQuaker -> RE: It's Official: The Whole World Thinks Republicans Are Dangerous Maniacs Threatening Everyone (7/16/2011 9:25:39 AM)

The Great Law of Peace was also the inspiration for big chunks of and the thinking behind a large number of principles the US Constitution, I suppose that makes the Six Nations the first republicans in North America as well.

Dunno if Hiawatha had quite this arrangement in mind back in the 12th century.

kdsub -> RE: It's Official: The Whole World Thinks Republicans Are Dangerous Maniacs Threatening Everyone (7/16/2011 9:25:59 AM)

They need to worry about their own business...All countries should be able to stand on their own without depending on another countries economics. If we owe money and can't pay then sue us and don't loan any more until we pay.

As far as that goes Germany has defaulted many times on its reparations payments so who are they to talk.

Butch

Fuck Em, and any American who agrees with them.

That's funny! That's what global warming deniers say about the THEROY of global warming! If there was any FACTS behind global warming it would not be a THEROY!!

Despite the FACT that it is a THEROY most believers will say but all the scientist agree. (Another falsehood)

The democrats had complete control of the government for 2 years.....but they kicked the can of a budget and debt limit down the road....it was not so important then.....now its a crisis! And the liberal sheeple ignore the facts and let the president (who never lies.....right?....lol...) Tell them he is willing to comprise (what? He is willing to cut a few billion 10 years from now? How fucking smart is he??) And he says it ALL republicans fault.....and u believe it! How smart are u???

A couple thoughts.....what is so smart about going further into debt?
What is smart about more than trippleing the debt? In the last 10 years the democrats have voted to raise the debt ceiling and a republican president (a progressive/republican) signed it...but its all the republicans fault dam it! I will give credit where credit is due......Obama said as a senator when he voted aginst a rise in the debt ceiling that it was wrong to put more debt on the backs of our children and grandchildren and asking for it to be raised shows a lack of leadership.

The right are holocaust deniers? Where the fuck did u get that tidbit from??? I bet u think gore is the next greatest warrior.....telling us to live in smaller houses and drive smaller cars from his mansion and limo and private jet. Gessss. Some people can make u laugh with out even trying!

mnottertail -> RE: It's Official: The Whole World Thinks Republicans Are Dangerous Maniacs Threatening Everyone (7/16/2011 12:23:28 PM)

THEORY.  And most scientists agree that we are very noticably affecting our environment.

But never mind that, fuck it, why bother to wipe your ass when you shit or clean up after you take a dump, drop it and play it where it lays.

Are you REALLY a teacher as I seem to remember you claiming earlier?  PLEASE tell Me you don't teach science.  (I did)

In the first place you have no fucking clue what a THEORY is.  In the second place, you can't even fucking SPELL it.

Lessee.... we'd have to rise to the level of Germany, Norway, Denmark...you know, those union hating, low tax, unregulated places.

eta:  What's crazy about the whole debt limit debate is that this increase is for stuff that was ordered years ago, not just during Obama's administration.  Like the wars, etc.

A balanced budget amendment would've kept us from going to war in Afghanistan or Iraq without raising taxes (amazingly enough, how we usually go to war.)  Alas, too many don't have the gonads to stand up to Norquist and tell him what an ass he is.

"The World?"
Well firstly doesn't "the world" hate the U.S. anyway? That's what the mouth-breathing lefties who ride the short bus have been trying to tell us for the last seven or eight years.
The only thing "the world" cares about when it comes to the U.S. is how much money they can get out of us; "gimme, gimme, gimme."
And if other countrie's economies collapse because of the U.S. that just goes to prove that this whole "global economy" crap just doesn't work.
I've been saying that for years and I didn't even major in economics.
Look at what Ross Perot said about "Nafta", everything he said about it has come true yet those in our govt. won't get us out of it!
We can't have "free-trade" deals with third world countries.
And we can't have our senators and congressmen "worrying" about what "the world" may think when they're when they're negotiating in our congress.
They're working for us not for other countries.
