slaveluci -> Dallas County rental voucher event leads to stampede/injuries (7/15/2011 5:23:29 PM)

"When Dallas County in Texas announced that it would be taking applications for federally-subsidized rental assistance vouchers on Thursday, officials never anticipated that a crowd of 5000 people would show up as early as 10 pm the previous night....."

Local officials are pointing fingers at each other over who is (more) to blame. To me, the bigger picture is the saddest. That many people NEED rental vouchers THAT badly and a few are made available for them to stampede over? God help us.........luci

What a waste.

If you're going to humiliate poor people, at least make it entertaining.

Honestly, I sometimes think America is losing its way.

Plus it was racist!

How were fat, white trailer-trash supposed to stand any chance against the kind of young, fit Afro-Americans we saw in that clip?

Disgraceful.

Any second  now we'll have AzBossMan (I believe he's the one that rejoiced in getting his taxes back by renting Section 8 housing, but frequently complained about the renters.)

That's a bit like being gluten intolerant and baking your own bread.

I feel that way whenever a golden opportunity for comedy is passed over.

Shameful.

You're definitely on the right track ... I'm thinking of something along the lines of "It's A Knockout", but with more poor people, and more death.

But death in a funny way, obviously.

Yeah, I would usually agree but this story disturbs me. People seem more desperate than ever and stories like this just serve to perfectly illustrate that. That and the fact that most of us don't stand a fighting chance against the coming economic apocalypse[sm=help.gif]

Did anyone else notice where this was held? The Jesse Owens Memorial Complex...

I thought that Obama would 'change' all of this. I'ts gotten worse on his watch.

Kinda hard to change something in 2.5 years that had been ongoing for the previous 8...or am I the only one who remembers history?

<stifles snigger>

slaveluci -> RE: Dallas County rental voucher event leads to stampede/injuries (7/16/2011 5:36:58 AM)

So all sniggering and "jokes" aside, I find it disturbing that "this is the first time in five years that the waiting list for vouchers has been opened" and that "only 100 vouchers are available right now, with 3800 to become available for the current applicants over the next two to four years." If help is needed on that scale, more should be being provided. To toss 100 vouchers out to a crowd of 5,000 people is reckless and cruel. And funny? I suppose if it's not you who's needing one to help house your family[8|]

There are cities around the US that have 8 year waiting periods for section 8 housing.

Fuck y'all. Why don't you try living under a bush in front of a church on Detroit avenue in Lakewood Ohio. Come on. You have nothing. All your pride in all the fucking money you made is false as soon as the money is gone. Try it. It's alot of fun. lol.

Gloat in your ivory towers until they come crashing down and guess what, us N_______ will care as much for you as you cared for us. Payback is a bitch.

Not Boston, Mass, at least if your name is "Aunt Zetuni." You not only don't get deported after ordered so by a judge you get right in front of the line for public housing in front of everyone else!
