Everyone involved talks a good line about how 'tough' and hard core they are about it, but none of the parites involved really want to be either the one being seen as responsible for, or the ones actually detonating the government default "suicide vest."

The fallout of a default woudl be in full swing around election time next year, and whoever did whatever in the reign of Bush the Younger and immediately after would be trivial, the voting natives woudl be looking at who was responsible for this current thing.

Yeah, THEY can't afford default. I'm telling you, we really were considering putting all the money in a Canadian bank. Should've. Doesn't matter though, it mostly got spent. The worst thing to have is money these days. Now I suppose alot of these high rollers have a good piece of their money in foreign banks. They're not even talking about devaluing their own damn money, they're talking about a political loss. Nice guys.

FQ, not to play spelling police here but I wonder what you meant. I'm thinking maybe "parites" was a typo. As a free spellchacker I offer the following corrections :

Parties - free for all, plural
Pirates - theif, plural

The latter seems more appropriate.

How's that ? It became pretty clear that they didn't want the Presidency when they ran McCain. A hundred years in Iraq, and I don't even want to restart the banter about Palin. They could've run a whole lot of other peole and had a hell of alot better chance. They didn't want it.

I have alot of confidence in our poliicians, really I do, but that is not meant in a positive way. It's more like the faith I have in predator to hunt. The only way to stop one is to put it in a zoo. Now there's an idea.

In a way, in this case their honesty is refreshing. Perhaps they're getting too stupid to lie. I'm just not so sure that's a good thing.

There are not enough sensible republicans to amass a majority of anything.

They've been throwing out the sensible voices for the last few election cycles. But the nutcases left can't see that they aren't going to convince the entire country to be batshit crazy with them. Look at 2006.

If there are any serious people out there wanting to start a viable third party, this would really be the time. At this rate, Republicans could go the way of the once dominant Whigs.

In 2006, Senator Obama didn’t just vote against raising the debt ceiling he personally demonized President George W. Bush for trying to raise it. He said:

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”

The buck now stops with Obama, and his leadership failure was all too obvious yesterday when he walked out of the debate in a huff like a spoiled little brat. Poo poo on you!

I havent heard anyone in the GOP who says that default would not be a disaster. What some have said is we wont default if the debt limit isnt raised by Geithners 4th drop dead date of 8/2, and they are right.

During the Great Depression the country temporarily reversed direction and stopped the New Deal policies, and then things got even worse....

I think we can expect these new austerity measures the Republicans are trying to implement will do the same.

For such a "pro-business" party, the moronic Teabilly bastards just don't get that it is CONSUMPTION which is the driver of the economy, not production. Cutting jobs means there is less money for consumption. Which means that there is less demand for goods. Which means that manufacturers lay people off, reduce wages, reduce hours, reduce benefits, or just sit tight. Laid-off people don't spend on fancy haircuts or dining out or non-essential car repairs or cool California flavored olive oils. The people in non-financial service businesses cut back THEIR HIRING AND SPENDING. It's a vicious spiral.

For the dimwits who DON'T think consumption drives the economy, go make some one-legged chairs. Produce 10 million of them. Price them at 3 cents. I can pretty much guarantee that even at that below-cost price, they won't sell too many. Because PRODUCTION does not drive the economy.

I mean, this is so basic even a non-economist like myself gets it. The ratfuckers' austerity addiction will backfire bigtime.

I am a GenXer.... My generation is the first generation that did not believe we would have more than our parents. We are a cynical generation. I hate to say it, but the Baby Boomer sellouts with the "whoever dies with the most toys wins" mentality really screwed the pooch. It is rather sad that all of the peace, love, and drugs didn't last for the Baby Boomers, instead they were the driving force behind the Reagan Revolution... not me and those slightly younger than I am... and anyways who fucking parented us? Baby Boomers for the most part. My parents were slightly older than Boomers... on the tail end of the Silent Generation. Hard working, middle class, nice law abiding people who believed in Unions and Civil Rights... and they were good parents. All of my siblings are Baby Boomer fuckwads, selfish self centered assholes who think it is all about them... the only one who doesn't is me.... and I am not a Baby Boomer... I am the youngest of the pack, the only Gen Xer.
