My Husband and I work wildlife damage control for our state, and have our information as directly from a current and reputable source as possible. The oppossum is a marsupial. Marsupials, for some reason we don't quite understand yet, cannot contract or carry rabies. Your information about the resistance factors are correct, however, and are as close to the current information we have as far as understanding why this is so.
