Incidentally, I'm also a practitioner, if anyone wants to Cmail me about it.

Reconnective Healing can be done at a distance (in fact, the frequencies are stronger at a distance); The Reconnection must be done in person.

I believe in that. Actually just the energies of the people we contact on the internet, I bielieve they can actually have an effect on us.

Just a thought . Why not try and send healing thoughts to members, or for whatever need people have in their lives?

And maybe I will accept your invitation Musicmystery.

Tony.

fast reply

I am loving this thread, hoping to learn something. The things that relax most folks make me a nervous wreck, I tend to relax with some loud blues going in my ears.

Blues is great for a dancing meditation.  :)

Actually, I do that (I sometimes forget), and yes, it calms people down.

You are welcome any time, Tony.

You can learn more from Dr. Pearl's book, "The Reconnection," or from TheReconnection.com -- youtube has several videos as well. And I'd be happy to answer any questions--just pop me a cmail.

How on earth can a person who's brain runs 100 miles an hour, ESPECIALLY when they are trying to stop it, meditate? The closest I come to it, is just before falling asleep. (or when stoned...)

I also really struggle with, what I call, switching gears. I go from a job and life that requires one type of mindset....then try to switch to a creative flow for artistic endevours and I seriously struggle. I cannot just switch back and forth easily enough to be able to do what I really want. So the artistic stuff that really feeds me, gets put aside.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Meditation advice (7/15/2011 12:16:59 PM)

Back when I was meditating, I found it helpful to sit and just let my mind go where it would until it ran out of steam. It made it much easier to clear my head for meditation.

LaTigresse -> RE: Meditation advice (7/15/2011 12:21:11 PM)

Therein lies my problem.....it never runs out of steam until I simply fall asleep.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Meditation advice (7/15/2011 12:24:11 PM)

It takes time and a lot of patience but it can be done. Eventually you can train your mind to just shut the fuck up lol. I used to lie in bed and have imaginary arguments with people who weren't there. Now, I can stop it just by saying No! and thinking of something more peaceful.

Musicmystery -> RE: Meditation advice (7/15/2011 12:25:25 PM)

When I get that, I remind myself that I'm not my thoughts. I step back, watch the silly mind spin, and let it be.

It sounds hard, but it's easier than you'd think. Try first thing in the morning...don't pick up the thoughts for a good five minutes, then get up.

I also used to think of all the "stuff" as tentacles, and I'd slowly remove them, one by one. After a few weeks, I stopped getting tangled up during my day in the first place. Again, easier than you'd suppose, with practice.

Don't try to stop it. If it runs off into some train of thought, just bring it back. It doesn't matter how often it runs off, or how brief the moments in-between are. You just bring it back... to your breath, your mantra, whatever. If you are doing that, you are meditating. That is the practice.

LaTigresse -> RE: Meditation advice (7/15/2011 12:35:30 PM)

I understand the concept of removing yourself from the spinning mind, as in not identifying with it. I simply need to learn to make it more quiet and less of an .........ohhhhhhh......interruption! That is the best way I can think of to describe it. It is much like a constant process of making mental to-do lists.

I also tend to constantly analyze EVERYTHING. People, situations, just everything. Almost as a source of just having something to do. If that makes any bloody sense at all.

Musicmystery -> RE: Meditation advice (7/15/2011 12:37:10 PM)

It makes perfect sense.

Kirata's post is spot on.

As for "making" your mind quiet....you can't slap down the ripples to make a pond flat.

graceadieu -> RE: Meditation advice (7/16/2011 2:11:41 PM)

There's always good old Vipassana (mindfulness) meditation. I used to do this and found it helpful for relaxing, for focusing on the present moment and reducing that million-thoughts-a-minute "monkey mind" thing that I think most of us suffer from. Also, it has the big advantage of being basically free. Even if you go to a meditation group or religious service, they just expect a couple bucks so they can pay the rent.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: Meditation advice (7/16/2011 3:22:09 PM)

I am really going to try this while I am at the beach this week. Normally, my mind gets to racing, and all I can think of doing is stopping it. I am going to let it race and see if it runs out.

thefallgirl -> RE: Meditation advice (7/16/2011 11:57:01 PM)

I tend to lean toward mindfulness and compassion practices though I have several relatives who either currently or formerly practice TM.  I guess what I'd want to know is what you want meditation to do for you that it's no longer doing.

I used to go to christian meetings. I hate it now a  days. It was like a collective hypnosis, people singing, focusing on their wishes, closing their eyes. The whole ritual was IMO, equivalent to a meditational transe where the colective thought energy would act on everyone and had an impact on returning the wishes back to whatever people wanted to achieve, and probably creating a powerful subconcious tool and grounding tool for people to achieve it.

Actually when  I was a kid, I used to sit down alone eating something that I enjoyed, pretending that I was a big business man doing deals. Silly isn't it ?

For those of you who are having trouble with quieting your mind, can I suggest the dance meditation I wrote about earlier?  The music tends to take me away.  It helps me tremendously!

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Meditation advice (7/17/2011 4:58:16 AM)

If it quiets your mind so you can meditate/sleep it's good. I allow myself time every day to do the imaginary arguments/let the day's "grrrr" out so I don't take it to bed with me. No trouble quieting my head since then.
