FR ~ My friend calls her husband Daddy all the time. I don't believe they are D/s - she knows I am and we've talked about sex and relationships openly and she's never shared that. But..she calls him Daddy. ALL the time.

And it makes me cringe. Is that hypocritical?

Oh....wait....she's married to my brother. Maybe that's why it makes me cringe. Ew.

Yes

Ditto on the"yes" from julia.

I'm not sure what him being your brother has to do with anything but to each their own.

I once sent a (fortunately very generic/vanilla) email to my Daddy, starting with "Hi Daddy..." but that dang autofill in email - I sent it to a friend distribution list in error.  These are two close friends who are not D/s or M/s.  I wondered how they'd react but they didn't think anything of it.

When friends/family have heard me call him Daddy they  just think it's because he's Daddy to my cat. [:D]

Yeah, I know. I have a hard time with the "Daddy" thing, but I'm sure I do plenty of things that others would have a hard time with.

The brother thing was a joke. You know, like I wouldn't want to picture my parents having sex, nor do I want to picture my brother in any kind of remotely sexual situation. Assuming it's sexual. Which I was.

And hopefully the folks who can't relate to what you do don't "ew" you.

My brother & I talk about sex pretty openly.  He knows of my enslavement and some of the sexual ways I serve.  He's asked me quite a bit about it.  In turn, he's shared with me some things he does or would like to do with his wife.  My sister-in-law has also talked to me about her sex life with my other brother.  It didn't occur to me to be bothered by that.  I guess that's why I couldn't relate to being squicked by a brother's sexuality.

I didn't "ew" them. I "ew"ed my brother. ....and...it was just ..you know....a joke. Ha ha? Lighthearted? I would have made the same joke in front of him - we often joke about the fact that he now sleeps with my best friend from when I was a kid.

NuevaVida -> RE: Making "Oopsies" in Public... (7/18/2011 9:54:31 PM)

Thanks for the clarification.  It didn't come across as a lighthearted joke.

Well, perhaps I'm not as funny as I think I am.

:)

I never call Him by His name, although I do refer to Him by name for friends and family. I have slipped and called Him "Sir" so many times in front of my kids, that I think they just ignore it now. But my embarrassment never fails to amuse Him.

The funny story was a few years back when He flew me up north to meet His Mother for the first time. He actually had to rehearse me to say His name. I couldn't believe how difficult I found it to be. But I didn't slip in front of her. I'm a good girl, after all. [:D]

*sends much love to Hejira and her Sir*

I met my husband while we were serving in the USAF. Everybody called him [last_name_diminutive]. After I accepted his wedding proposal, he insisted I call him [first_name]. This was hard to get used to!

kuppykake -> RE: Making "Oopsies" in Public... (7/19/2011 9:39:49 AM)

I used to worry about what people would think if I were to use "Master" in public.  I do not recall myself having made the slip-up, but I am sure it will happen sooner or later.  We started out vanilla, so using his actual name when others are around is something I'm used to and allowed to do.  When I do slip up, I shall simply improvise based on my situation.  Warming up to the idea of it happening before it does seems to help.  After all, if I say, "Master" and people look, does that automatically unveil the curtain that separates my vanilla and non-vanilla life?  No, so worrying about it or wondering what to do "if" something happens does me no good. There was an occasion when I was having a conversation with a co-worker, and I was about to say something along the lines of "I'll have to see what my Master thinks."  I caught myself, but had I not, I would have said something like, "He likes me to refer to him that way haha."  In all likelihood, the joking expression on my face and the giggle at the end would just leave the person simply wondering, and that's kind of amusing.

Have you ever caught yourself calling your Master, "Master" or "Sir" in public around people who might not understand the lifestlye?

A while back I was with a man (not a dom) but I quite often called him "Daddy", that was just my pet name for him in private. We were out in public one day and I saw something that excited me so I said "Daddy! Daddy! Look at this!" I didn't realize what I had called him until I saw the bizarre confused looks on people's faces. [sm=Groaner.gif]

That is funny and if it were me I would probably respond with some witty remark just to keep it going.

In terms "Ooopsies" that is so minor as to not even be acknowledged as a mistake or slip up.

Love your screen name....it's cute :)

SirLucifer -> RE: Making "Oopsies" in Public... (7/21/2011 3:34:11 PM)

We're from FL, so it's not uncommon to hear people say Sir and/or Ma'am. And FL is an oddly kinky place despite being the "Bible Belt", haha. My buddy told me the guy who is the current Champion of the SCA region rode into a fair (Excuse my lack of terminology) on a chariot pulled by 4 or 6 ponygirls! Epicness!

she called me Sir in public (not around our parents, though, their skin would flip inside out and fire would shoot out of their eyesockets, or so I've heard [:D] ) and around our friends, kinky or not she called me Master.

But nowadays I usually just tell them they can call me Sir if they like. I call them boy or girl. It seems appropriate.

RaspberryLemon -> RE: Making "Oopsies" in Public... (7/21/2011 7:50:18 PM)

He did refer to himself as my Master once in front of my mother... it was kind of out of place I suppose, but she didn't say anything about it and she knows about how our relationship is so it wasn't too awkward.

Palliata -> RE: Making "Oopsies" in Public... (7/21/2011 7:54:42 PM)

I once told a slave who was being bratty to 'be good, little pet' in front of her father. He definitely suspected the nature of things between us already, and picked up on that immediately. In retrospect I'm pretty sure he had a bit of experience in that area himself. Things between he and I were weird for a solid year after that just the same, though.

EDIT: clarity

Thats a pretty epic slip up.  Even more epic if it wasn't a 'slip', but deliberate.

Well, it was a slip in that I forgot the situation we were in. I guess maybe subconsciously I wanted to 'out' us to the parents. Who knows.

All in all I just don't much care for trying to keep the lifestyle in seclusion because it means that I essentially have to have two relationship dynamics - one for when we're alone, and one for when we're with people. It grates on my nerves and life is just too short.

Emmasubgirl -> RE: Making "Oopsies" in Public... (8/12/2011 11:27:23 PM)
