Thoughts?

We just sold our 30+ year old Bertrum, twin screws, 32'. We maintained it properly and it lasted fine. The new owner has coveted it for years.

I like the old clinker-built Lyman hull.

WHALERS are HANDS DOWN the best fiberglass boat in the "skiff" class ever made. While Aquasports and Mako's tried to make their mark IN THE WAKE, They are totally inferior. And Whalers are almost virtually unsinkable with their rigid foam core hull.
The only thing I would rather own than a 17 - 24 foot whaler is a 21[' SturDee Boat Workskiff from the late 6os  to mid - 70s They were all custom built and the most dangerous skiff on the water with it's solid oak transom and 4x4 oak center spline and bowsprit. My friends used to invariably shout "stand by to ram" as we'd approach other vessels from behind screwing out the Sakonnet River... Truly terrifying if you actually knew the individuals in the boat
While they've been bought by Brunswick, they remain the most formidable boat in the skiff market.
I knew there was a reason I liked you. And I certainly knew it wasn't because you owned one of those 'alternate lifestyle' searays like Willbe

THAT is why Firm should NEVER be allowed near a decent center console boat!

Shore has a bowrider that I love. It has an outboard motor and we're able to explore lots of areas of Barnegat Bay that a lot of other boats can't get to.
And if there's been a lot of rain and high tide, we can cut right across the bay without worrying about the low spots and grounding out...get's us to the best bar in NJ hidden on a creek...accessible by boat or by driving down a dirt road.

Here in the UK, where I live there is a couple of much admired Boston Whalers, a lovely design, but expensive. Me, I got a scabby old half rotted Mirror dinghy I use for general purpose, row, motor and sail and to get out to the Family thirty foot  Ex Admiralty Pinnace we use for inshore fishing moored in the middle of the lake.

But although not particularly a fan of flappy wings and bits of string, I am highly impressed with this ;

Waterskiing

But this is the cousin's boat

A hot-chick in a boat, are my 2nd and 3rd most favorite things.

For me this is the BEST way to explore the shore, bays, creeks and backwaters is by boat.

And bar hoping and eating out by boat is awsome.

You get to see things you would never see otherwise.

Good times.

~FR~

I'm fairly clueless..

I am pretty sure a sloop is a sailboat, I know a catamaran is.

I have a friend who has a 50', junk rigged, steel hulled boat  (spent a week aboard a few yrs ago.....DAMN the doghouse *rubs forehead in remebrance*)

*sigh*

way back when, attending summer camp, I WANTED to learn to sail and other forms of boating... I just couldnt do the capsize the rowbaot, and get it back over bit...

60'? Did he ever leave the dock?
I've got to admit that the Bertrum was overkill. Before it we had a 25' Chris Craft. Even smaller would have been fine for going after weakfish in the Great South Bay but on those rare occasions we'd go for blues in the Atlantic, the Bertrum's dependability was nice to have.

I think I know which one you're talking about :) And if it is, I'm seriously jonesin' for a lobster and a beer out on the screened in back deck/porch there. *sigh*
