SashaSteel -> Playgirl .. what gender buys it? (6/30/2011 8:59:20 PM)

So I just had a quick discussion with a guy that had one of those paste and copy your pic (face) on one of those cheesy "frames" magazines. (i.e - Cosmo, Vogue, Playboy) In this case .. he had pasted his face pic on a"Playgirl" magazine frame. I wrote to him and asked him if he was straight, because his profile said he was. He wrote back and confirmed that he was.

I was always under the impression that gay men bought/looked at Playgirl. I also always think that so called "straight men" who have a ton of cockshot pics in their profiles are waving the "secret flag" to other closet gays.
Any thoughts on this?

Sincerely,
Sasha

I havent seen a playgirl in 30 years (since some dude in the dorm sent his pic in to the "Boy next Door" section) but I'd be willing to bet that it would be at LEAST 50/50 and there just might be more males purchasing.

As for "cockshots" I have one and not many guys seem to look at it. [8D]

When I was in college, my roomies and I had a subscription to 'Playgirl'. It was always funny to see the looks on male friends' faces when they came over and saw the 'pinups' on the living room wall. Funny how shocked some were, considering the number of naked women pics on their own walls [:D]

We goofed pretty hard on the dude in our dorm that sent his pic in. Let's just say it must have been a cold day.

Wow! I didn't even know this magazine was still in business...but any guy who said he was in "Playboy" I wouldn't be into....

Its not only men that enjoy looking at a naked body...gay..looking at men in Playgirl.. or straight looking at naked women in playboy magazines. I happen to love "visuals" every bit as the average red blooded male.

For me.. it about lines..and curves... the way thighs curve into thick masculine buttocks... and i barely note the sex organ itself.. unless for whatever reason it differs from the norm.. lol

But i also enjoy looking at artistic photography... of nude females... despite being straight.

I thought it was out of business as well, going back a couple of years, I sometimes submitted interviews to them (especially with musicians who would appeal to the errr more camp audience, Ricky Martin was very popular with their audience, I rest my case...), I think the print edition went out of business in most of Europe and thought in the US too.

Everybody knew that the readership was mainly gay males, but the official line was that it is a magazine for women, I think about 70% or more males bought it and the subscribers were almost exclusively male. The pics were photoshopped to hell and back, it really was "Oh we got a couple of big cocks, we need some more for the ones who like them smaller... So if they already had the pics and the shoots were done, photoshop magic came into play. Another funny thing was the erection angle, I think they were only allowed 30 degrees, otherwise you couldn't sell it in newsstands but in adult shops only (apparently a male erection over a certain angle is pornographic) so if a guy was fluffed too much, photoshop and "bending him down". It was a source of great amusement to me to watch the graphics guys at work...

This just shows how smart one had to be in production if this magazine. Two semesters of trigonometry or forget it.

In any case, I just remember seeing one of the Burt Reynolds pics replicated in other magazines, that's as far as my awareness of it went.

However studies show that straight men look at penis shots very often. It has nothing to do with being a closet gay. Any more than straight women watching male on male porn means they're really trans who haven't admitted it.

Does that mean lesbians buy/look at Playboy? I have never seen a lesbian who looks like the chicks in Playboy.

I remember Playgirl!! We bought it as teenagers! That would be in the "70's.

Now there is a magazine called "In Touch" which is a celebrity gossip thing---back THEN it was an awesome gay men's magazine! Times change.

My first wife was one (Well... quite Bi) I shit canned her (encouraged her to develop her writing career) when she let me know 10 years into a marriage she wasn't going to "harm her perfect abs to become a breeder" which I found amusing since it was the cornerstone of her pitch to get me to marry her. Anyway, she got to be a terrible author and now writes copy on menus to stay alive. And I have two kids with IQs in the 140s that are both cute and highly athletic. Things are cool.
And whenever anyone we know dies in RI, we end up wrecking a hotel room somewhere on Aquidneck Island for a day or two. And I'll have to admit the years have been kind to her.

Decades ago, I worked the graveyard shift at a convenience store/gas station and only men bought them.

Artistic nudes are great but unfortunately you don't see them in Playboy all that often, it's more airbrushed to high heaven, I think Playboy is to artistic photography what car catalog is to Man Ray... Great photographers but they aren't out to create artistic images...

tj444 -> RE: Playgirl .. what gender buys it? (7/1/2011 9:29:39 AM)

With all the porn and sexy pics on the internet, who buys either playgirl or playboy, etc anymore??? [8|]

pahunkboy -> RE: Playgirl .. what gender buys it? (7/1/2011 10:49:53 AM)

It is not a secret code to lay guys.    There are so much porn online- gay males - wont bother with playgirl.

x-tube ... check that out...  even before the net took off- playgirl was not that good- as the niche magazines offered more.

True enough... and to think about it... when i think of the magazines of the nude males that I have enjoyed looking at... it wasnt Playgirl that instantly popped into my mind as being a great source. They were ok.. But i prefered more blackmarket style magazines that showed not only naked men..but ones featuring more riske themes.

But... still.. a nude male body..is a nude male body..and i have found enjoyment in looking at visuals of them. It doesnt just stop at low quality magazines...kink magazines.. but porno video as well.... i love the male naked body. And for me... its not always the fit shapely body of a man that ive looked at..and enjoyed. Men with weight can be every bit as enjoyable to look at.

Never understood how some like to think only men get off on the "visual" while females are excited by the emotional. I think thats total crap..since its never applied to me.

Nude males... I enjoy most any source possible.

But, like I said.. as far as enjoying the nude female body...well... for that I tend to have a higher level of tastes in that i prefer to look at creative and artistic photography. Not at playboy magazines.
