Jaspersky -> New Piercing Problems (6/28/2011 7:57:38 PM)

I just got my tounge pierced recently (no im not a newbie on piercings i gauge my own ears, have my nipples pierced and my belly), but i just swallowed my tounge ring barbell and i was wondering what i should do? like i dont want to or think i need to go to the ER (im in the middle of nowhere so that really wouldent be much of an option) i just would like to hear what happened to a person how did the same and what they did. I dont want to retreive it and i already replaced the barbell in my tounge.

...my brother swallowed moms wedding ring when he was a kid.  As long as he did not choke he was fine.

No...  Never found it.

I never heard of things stuck in appendix.  The risk would have been choking.

You could  take some senna to pass it along you system.   flush it out...

yea well im glad that didnt happen i was eating when it came out i think thats probably why i didnt feel it in my mouth or when i swallowed it, im just a bit worried on the possibility of a perforated bowel, the nearest hospital isnt for around 50 to 100 miles

it pretty much is just like "eat bread, or exlax' and some said "dont do anything and dont stress it passes just fine" i was hoping to get a opinion from someone who had done it personally

Call the nearest hospital and ask the ER nurse for advice.

Uhhh, not done it personally but my other half happened to swallow my piercing (wasn't a tongue piercing and heaven knows how it opened...) that was about 4 years ago and he's still alive, the only comment he made was "Damned, I take it you don't want it back tomorrow morning..." We both almost died from laughter but that was it. I also never asked if he found it the next morning, I just went and bought a new one.

Curious-  if they were that dangerous- they would be illegal.   <  maybe..

angelikaJ -> RE: New Piercing Problems (6/29/2011 5:52:02 PM)

PA, they are not intended to be swallowed.
Many things are safe as long as you use them in accordance to their instructions.
Swallowing sharp objects can lead to perforations which often lead to very nasty complications.

To the OP, if you have a regular physician, you could call them and either they or the covering one might call you back.

pahunkboy -> RE: New Piercing Problems (6/29/2011 6:10:58 PM)

It is illegal to swallow them?

People swallow teeth thingees all the time.

Aneirin -> RE: New Piercing Problems (6/29/2011 10:43:13 PM)

When I was a kid I had an old german bullet, had being past tense, because my sister swallowed it, she was a bit of a celeb at the hospital as the word got roun, chinese whispers and all that, but no worries the thing passed through, but I never got my damned bullet back.

ViborgHerre -> RE: New Piercing Problems (6/29/2011 11:22:13 PM)

For what it is worth, the story goes that if you have to swallow jewels - in order to smuggle them somewhere - eat a lot of aspagus. The theory being that the fibers would wind themself around something solid and thus brotect the vaounerable areas....

I accept NO responsebillity for the validiity of this concept - It is given for amusement value only.

SpiritedRadiance -> RE: New Piercing Problems (6/29/2011 11:28:44 PM)

Do you use metal or acrylic? how longs the bar? Is it the just pierced bar which is about an inch and a half or longer or is it the normal bar thats less then an inch?

If its metal and the longer bar call your doctor, or talk to the piercer where you got it done they may have advise

if its acrylic or the smaller it should be fine, but still talk to your doc or the piercer.
