Tampa Bay retiree comes home to find all his belongings gone after bank forecloses on WRONG house
A Florida retiree has filed a lawsuit against a company that cleans out houses in foreclosure, after they mistakenly emptied his home.
Eighty-two-year-old Benito Santiago Sr returned to Tampa from vacation in 2009, and found his residence padlocked, and his life's possessions gone. But as public records show, the home was not in foreclosure.

This is bullshit.  The banks made too many bad loans and as a consequence have way too many foreclosures.  They're farming them out to minimum wage contractors, who are seizing the wrong houses.

Here's a happier story - some guy came home to find a bank contractor drilling out his locks and preparing to enter after she read the address wrong.  http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/finance/1091126/

I wonder why it took him 2 years to file a lawsuit (he is not getting any younger after all). If you want to get your stuff back and get someones attention you file a lawsuit right away, imo.

But yeah, this has happened before to others as well.

Because it wasn't till earlier this year they finally told him, nope not paying you a dime.  They've been stringing him along for some time.

Familiar with the story and it is only one of several that have happened around here.

nasty, but seriously, you give them a deadline (just like any creditor does) and if they dont perform then stop letting them screw with you and nail them in court. He would have his $ by now if he had done that. Jmo...

Has anyone ever heard of filing a criminal complaint for grand theft or do the cops just not give a shit cause they're too busy writing tickets?

I would say/guess cuz the thieves claim the house is being foreclosed on that the cops bow out and say its a civil matter.
... yes, its a cop out... lol

I arrived at one of my properties one day just in time to see tree cutters (hired by a neigbor) arrive to cut trees on my property. I did not confront them but called the police instead. I could have had them charged with trespass and gotten damages from them if i had wanted to.
Even with corps, there is a CEO & directors that can be held personally & legally liable for various acts. Madoff is in jail is he not? he did that thru a corp.

Edit to add, the neighbor wanted my trees cut, not his, he was harassing me about them.

According to the Peoples United SCOTUS decision, corporations are people.
I'd LOVE to see a few companies charged with crimes and go to trial!
