I've seen many people who are into Pet Play, but what I don't get is the submissives that play the role of a kitty.

Main reason being, I have had kitties (real ones..the actual animals. :-P) and they do not at all strike me as submissive animals. Puppies, I get. Ponies even, I get. Those two animals like any other are born wild, but you can stick a leash on them and give them a whip or a swat on the nose and sooner or later they are submissive.

Kitties on the other hand, not so much. They seem to be very independent creatures and not at all willing to just do what you say when you say it. Go ahead and try swatting at a cat, unlike most dogs, that cat is probably going to leave you with a few thousand cuts on your hands and face.

Why do submissives play the role of an animal that is not at all submissive?

I have nothing to directly add to your understanding of why, but I have a suggestion.

I you know one who comes to a munch or in an e-mail, ask them.   Be uber respectful and explain that you are trying to understand as you're new lifestyle.   Most people I have met will be happy to explain what their activities do for them if you come to them in a non-judgemental and simply "I'm trying to understand" approach.

This is the same way that I came to learn a lot about daddy-girl play.   A friends was in an LTR that included this aspect and was something I had no understanding of.
