I'm not, but are you also complaining about the grossly obese people showing butt crack and belly? You know somebody over 300 lbs squeezed into too small shorts and and a top that doesn't quite contain the abundance? Because I consider that much more obscene, yet they never seem to care or be asked to cover up.

your belly hanging out, or the crack of an arse isn't nearly so offencive as someones cock barely concealed. if he had been wearing a skirt too then cool. but he's not in an appropriate place to be dressed like that. someone dressed in too tight clothes because they don't want to admit they are actually a couple of sizes larger is not nearly as bad as this guy. they may not look good in what they are wearing, but no-one has to be 300lbs for that to happen.

this guy looks perfectly ok, just not on a plane.

i really don't care what he says though, we live in an age where people think they can't complain now for fear of discrimination, so just because people don't say anything doesn't mean they don't feel uncomfortable. me personally, i would have said something directly to him.

So a 20 year old gets tossed off a plane because the flight crew decide they can see too much of his boxers. Yet this "Rocky Horror Picture Show" wanna be struts his junk all over the airport and plane and the answer is "nothing we can do".

I love how they plaster the kid's name accross the article while describing the arrest, yet "
A mystery frequent flier photographed in women’s lingerie — and little else — at Fort Lauderdale International Airport on June 9 said he does so to make travel fun" ...
.. While, I am sure, RUINING just about everyone else's flight... is known only as "Howard".

while I have no issue with the dude flying semi nekkid, I just find it absurd that the airline would deny a MOSTLY dressed (ok, fully... but who the hell wants to see someones undies unless theyre about to have sex??) passenger, and allow the mostly UNDRESSED passenger. Sadly, I see racial profiling combined with overly PC crap going on./

of course, that may just be me.

WHY doesn't the airline have a dress code? Wouldn't that prevent discrimination (perceived or real) due to clothing?

Actually, all they really need to do is put some clause in there somewhere that says, if the crew deems your clothing to be inappropriate, you may be asked to change or adjust your attire. If you refuse, you may be kicked off the plane.

I am not saying this idiot should have been allowed to fly, he shouldn't have been.  This to me is more offensive to the average traveler than any thing the kid was wearing.  The thing is, if the kid had just either pulled up his pants or left the plane, he would have had this story to use against what they asked him to do.  But the thing is, he wasn't kicked off the plane for what he was wearing, he was kicked off because he refused to do as the airline asked.

The fact of the matter is this man wasn't asked to change.  If he was and didn't, i am sure he would have had the same consequences of being kicked off the flight.

Was it discrimination?  I don't think so.  I think it was just stupidity on every part -- the airline in both situations, and the kid for his reaction and this guy for being a attention whore.

I was thinking the same thing. If the kid had just pulled up his pants... he could have had a valid complaint at the other end. OR if he didnt want too, and had been put off the plane as a result, he could have had a discrimination suit.

Do I think its racist? No, but had the kid kept his cool and not fought, the public would have been left with the impression that this was a case of discrimination.

Whatever, if 'Howard' appears in public dressed dressed in  drag, and he attracts the attention of the press, he enjoys no protection as to his name. The reporter just didn't press for it. When you don't want the press to find out out something, that's when they are most diligent about it usually. Like I said though, whatever, I was making an observation as opposed  to discussing rights.

If he makes this a condition, the journo would be acting unethical by printing the name. Plus what would have been gained by knowing his name?

~FR~

my point in posting this was that the kid (no matter how badly he behaved when confronted) was a young black man, wearing clothing that is typical for his age (as much as that galls me).

howard was wearing.. well, not much.  but howard is a middle-aged white man (and as far as I can tell from the article, was never confronted with a "do something about your clothing" scenario).

THAT is what bothers me.

Well, as I said both cases wouldn't bother me personally, but if the kid was almost showing genitalia with low jeans and got a bit shitty when asked to pull the pants up, I can understand why he would be kicked off.

Howard does simply look comical, a bit like a pantomime dame, I can imagine people just giggling because let's face it, he looks too ridiculous to be truly offensive.

I seriously don't think there was any racial profiling going on, one of them reacts badly when confronted and is an arse, the other one is laughing stock but willing to cover up when asked...

You're ultimately right... but were I a journalist I wouldn't have gone to the trouble to seek out the guy looking to create a public "whatever" and given him his 15 minutes of fame. And if I didm I'd have made the 'conditions' or just told him, "I'll mention you but don't need you to pose in your outfit. If you want that kind of attention, let's go all the way and print your name". Sorry, I just don't believe in giving attention freaks any kind of special treatment.

I you're a journo and you want to see your work printed, you do what your editor tells you, and if the editor thinks it makes a better story to interview him, that is what you have to do, unless you are freelancing and you can take it to another publication.

Oh, well now I think we're assuming WAY too much.
While that could be true, how is there any plausible reason to think that even happened?

Does the fact that I worked as a journo for a decade count as anything? And even if you do freelance, it can be difficult, I recall a big scandal and some journos got facts, yet the company had plenty of advertising which they threatened to pull (and they can, always a loophole), guess what, story never saw the light of day, a few independent papers were interested but they knew they would be dragged through a legal muddle they couldn't afford. We believe in the right of the free press, when in reality our "free press" is ruled by currency or advertisers.

I think the guy offered an interview under the condition that his last name is not mentioned, it was "agree or sod off" and looking for the name would have involved costs and effort, which the mag possibly wasn't willing to foot, now even journalists have to eat and pay rent, unless they are independently wealthy - there might be some, but personally I never met them, maybe they were too busy being pet journalists and rubbing shoulders with people instead of being printed...
