On Monday, the FBI announced that after years of focusing on Bulger, it was launching a new initiative aimed at daytime TV viewers.

It began airing a 30-second public service announcement in 14 cities across the United States urging people to be on the lookout for [Bulger's girlfriend] Greig, a dental hygienist who was devoted to her appearance, had plastic surgery in the past, and frequently had her hair cut and teeth cleaned. The spots aired during daytime shows, including, "Ellen," "The View," and "Live with Regis & Kelly."

James Joseph "Whitey" Bulger, Jr. (born September 3, 1929) is an American former crime boss who led the Winter Hill Gang, a group of local criminals based in Somerville, Massachusetts. He served as an informant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in a controversial arrangement that allowed him to continue his criminal activities. The disclosure in 1997 by The Boston Globe of the involvement of federal agents with Bulger was considered a major embarrassment for the agency.

On August 19, 1999, Bulger became the 458th person added to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. He was wanted for racketeering (under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO)), 19 counts of murder, extortion, money laundering, conspiracy and narcotics distribution. On June 22, 2011, after sixteen years on the run, he was arrested at his apartment in Santa Monica, California, along with his girlfriend Catherine Greig. He was 81 years old at the time of his arrest[2][3][4], and supposedly in poor health.[5]

Status: offline 		What's going on?  We just killed OBL, and I read a week or two later that another high ranking AQ was killed in an unmanned drone attack.

Now we got a fugitive of 16 years.  Coincidence?

I suspect that Obama wanted to have some AQ scalps, and that the FBI is being pushed to produce results for a good image in advance of possible budget cuts.  Plus Obama is preempting what would have been predictable "soft on crime" and "soft on terrorism" swipes.

Oh I don't know....perhaps till he croaks ? What else can be done with him,yeah he is 81 but when arrested he had great amounts of cash and multiple firearms,including long guns,in his apartment ...so this is definitely not some nice old guy from up the street...he is an unrepentant killer who deserves to die in prison for his crimes.

Yeah, except for the fact that they painted the law enforcement people surrounding him and after him WAY TOO CLEAN.

That was the biggest Scumbag cluster fuck this area's ever seen.

I hope at least the judge orders the $800k to be used to pay back SOME of the money this investigation has caused the tax payers.
What a fucking waste of revenue.
  And shame on the Irish Mafia for not bust8ing a cap in Whitey's ass and saving us all a lot of trouble.

Basically, the MO was this... If the Winter Hill Boys couldn't get to a rival in the usual manner, they used the FBI to put them out of business.
  The FBI guys in turn left Winter Hill alone, and built their entire careers off the busts Whitey fed em.

I am utterly shocked BTW, that the cannibals ... I mean neo-cons haven't lept all over who this guy's brother was.

Status: offline 		I used to work for the grandson of  James Curley...at the Chandlery in Malden isnt it, end of the Tobin Bridge on the foot of Admirals Hill there.......

Buncha wiseguys in the place, owned by a wiseguy I believe,  and I asked John why the italian mobs were so powerful in the area (this was the days of Sammy the Bull and John Gottis falling out) and he fairly roared ...We dont let those guinea pricks run shit, they're fuckin' stupid, they talk into microphones, the irish still run this fuckin place, look at the westies, look at chicago, its a fuckin irish mayor, even when al capone was in the papers...

All the heads turned, when they saw who it was, they sucked in their breath and pretended they didnt hear a fuckin thing...........

The lace curtain shanty irish little elvin pricks are good folks to know in America.

One of my best friends from "Rosi" is one of Curley's great great grand children. Boy, the fucking funerals they would throw...
  That Chandlery BTW & Admiral's Hill is Chelsea, I was IT Director of a company two streets away from that property for 4 years... the Malden line however is a mere mile or so away.
Every once in a while I would take my lunch hour over there when the weather was nice.

Status: offline 		I bet we know some of the same folks, I was on 80 Everett Ave, right across from the popeyes chicken.   What around 4 blocks from the Chandlery and you are right, Chelsea.  Means you were a couple roads to the west of me, Malden was a couple blocks north of us.  They made the best shrimp scampi, and put the shit on buttered fettucini the way it should be.....bed of rice, my ass. 

I was an IT guy for Castel, they made iSeries (AS400) software for telephony amongst other things.

Status: offline 		I wish I had kept an eye on the Ten Most Wanted list as maybe I would have seen him walking around as he lived near me for the whole 10 years he was living there..I have even walked by that apartment building many times when I took certain walks. I wonder though how many people even in Boston would have recognized him at his age though..more than here I am sure! I wonder why he needed all those guns in his apartment too...maybe for the big shootout in the end or maybe he was selling them on and off.
