ranja -> holding hands (6/18/2011 5:32:54 AM)

As i walked with my Husband the other day i noticed the way we hold hands.
my hand is in His, His arm goes over the top... and it feels more comfortable if i am a slight step behind.
i asked Him to let me have the *lead* so to speak and we changed our hand hold... He was extremely uncomfortable with it and quickly changed it back.

The next day i noticed i hold my child's hand exactly the same way as my Husbands holds mine... it seems to have to do with leading and being in charge.

If you walk hand in hand with your partner, how is your hand hold and does it matter who is incharge?

Yeah I hold my b.f.s hand letting him take the lead so to speak!
We're to be engaged this January coming, I can't wait!

Since I tend to be a toucher, and holding someone's hand is part of touching, I don't find the hand positioning depend on who, if anyone is leading, but more in the height differences of the two people.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: holding hands (6/19/2011 10:03:42 AM)

in my last relationship, we held hands alot. he was also quite a bit taller (a foot and a half) so it was most comfortable for us to have his hand on top/in front, and mine on the bottom/behind. it was probably mostly because of height; if my hand is on top, it pulls the other person down, and makes me have to raise my arm. very uncomfortable for everyone involved.

i love holding hands and my hand always seems to be in his with his over the top of mine. he seems to like fingers entwined and my hand will still be at the back of his. after a bit though it's more comfortable for me to have my hand in his.

it has nothing to do with leading though, i would still have my hand at the back of his even if i had grabbed it to take him somewhere. however, when my son was small i always had my hand over the top of his.

Never really thought about it, actually. Now I'm sitting here holding my hand out as if about to hold hands with him, to see where my hand position naturally goes!

Yep, it's on the "bottom" but then I realize that's how I hold anyone's hand - friends, sisters, etc.  As others have said, I think it has more to do with height (I'm typically shorter than the others).  I don't think it has anything to do with leading/following.  I've led others through crows with my hand on the bottom half of the hand-holding.

Try this one... walking with his hand (i.e., palm) on top of your wrist -- thus, leading you by holding your wrist instead of your hand. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALS!!! [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D]

Might this have something to do with hieght?

FR

I just had to do a lot of waving my own hands in the air to work this out.

Fingers laced together, with CreepyStalker's arm on top but her elbow nestled in the crook of mine so our actual hands are more sideways than anything.

MrHCurious -> RE: holding hands (6/19/2011 1:31:52 PM)

Is it normal that I can't actually remember how I hold the missus' hand? I know I have a particular way I like it, I just can't really...it's half not being able to properly remember it and half not being able to describe it. She might come in and answer herself, hopefully.

anyway; How come you're allowed to post, ranja?

One would assume the moderation period has ended.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: holding hands (6/19/2011 3:34:38 PM)

We hold hands with mine in his fingers interlaced. I walk beside him, unless I am in pain an drop back cause I can't walk to well. It has no reflection on our relationship dynamic.

sexisubi -> RE: holding hands (6/19/2011 4:18:10 PM)

I would walk with my X except I never gave much thought about if i was a step behind and forward whatever was most comfortable. When he took my hand, I like to think when i walked with my X it as a protective stance, so if a move needs to be made it can be done so quickly and efficiently, and i like that feeling. *thinks of the past and swoons* =)

now that hes my X, and if we do hold hands usually its when were already sitting and usually his is on top cause again he wants to move ore whatever then it's easier for him to do so or if we're walking the pups its arm and arm with me linking mine in his and him walking in front. it just makes me feel good being that close to him safe and loved even during a most interesting time lol.

and btw, great topic pick, wonderful to think about the soft romantic side that still exists. =)

Kaliko -> RE: holding hands (6/19/2011 7:01:58 PM)

This just made me think....one of the first times we were together, and long before he and I were ever D/s, I didn't want to hold his hand. He said "Well, you're with me now. Things are different. I will hold your hand when we walk."

No wonder I fell like a brick for him.

This is really mechanics. The height of the people is really what it's about. Purely mechanics. *shrug*

welcome back, ranja.

Kana -> RE: holding hands (6/20/2011 4:14:13 AM)

Grins. My hand holds the leash, which is clipped to her cuff. Ever the romantic-that is I.
