My dear mike,

Please note the chronological order of the posts.  I didn't even get on this thread until *after* your comment.  I even specified fast reply so you'd know it wasn't in response to you.  If anything, we had the same target.

With Regard,

LP

I think if people knew that alcohol causes cancer (alcohol does cause cancer) they would drink a lot less. And I'm confident there is a medical issue with drugs just like there is with alcohol that would negatively impact drug use. For instance, in the future they might find out that using drugs increases the probability of dementia problems like Alzheimer's.

Carter says all this is Reagan's fault.

Former President Carter Urges Marijuana Legalization

"In a message to Congress in 1977, I said the country should decriminalize the possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, with a full program of treatment for addicts," Carter wrote. "I also cautioned against filling our prisons with young people who were no threat to society, and summarized by saying: 'Penalties against possession of a drug should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself.' "

"Those ideas were widely accepted at the time," Carter wrote. "But in the 1980s President Ronald Reagan and Congress began to shift from balanced drug policies, including the treatment and rehabilitation of addicts, toward futile efforts to control drug imports from foreign countries."

"One result has been a terrible escalation in drug-related violence, corruption and gross violations of human rights in a growing number of Latin American countries," Carter wrote.

Oh COME ON, If the feds raided more than say 10 medical suppliers that would be an increase. I thought you were talking about some real number.
Possession busts are down drastically. Period.
Citing a relatively new and contentious for of distribution and pointing to the arrest numbers being up is about as 'pure' as Michelle Bachman. It does however support my vested interest assertion rather well. The pot clubs of California have become big enough business that they are buying their own republican rep in San Fran's congressional district.

Um not exactly.... Are you by any chance related to the guy who claimed Israel told Anthony Weiner to resign?
the Gulf Obama was referring to in his speech was a company called GULF OIL... not "THE GULF".
While I still have some questions about the wisdom of setting Brazil of all places up, I think you need to do a little more research. Gulf Oil has been the main one bitching becuae in the safety surveys that were conducted, they came up so low, they've been getting cited for it.
Whereas Brazil is willing to use newer technologies to prevent spills. All American oil (or should I say, UNAMERICAN companies are doing is holding jobs over everybody's heads if they don't get what they want.  Someone finally took a stand against him and now 'he's' the hypocrite... And all the names of those claiming it are big OIL CEOs... Is it totally lost on you what happened in DC the day after they said they were considering cutting off their subsidies? All the CEOs filed into congress and begged and threatened America.

I misread her post, so my post didn't make sense, but to be fair to myself, it is hard to understand what she writes sometimes...

That is a good question: Why is the Obama administration saying they have ended the war on drugs, yet continue to make a higher rate of arrests, and budget money towards punishment, rather than treatment?

What special interest groups or corporations are gaining from a continued war on drugs?
