The Republican governor quietly signed the suspension memo on June 10 but it received little public notice until the American Civil Liberties Union obtained and circulated copies on Thursday. The ACLU sued Scott last month in a federal court. It said mandating drug tests for workers who were not suspected of wrongdoing violated their constitutional protection against unreasonable searches and seizure, and robbed them of due process. His missus must be really pisssed. WHile I understand this is totally different to the welfare recipients. I am happy its been removed. Wil there be a recall?

There are so many other things he's done, Lucy. It would make your head spin. The drug testing, cutting education budgets and putting teachers on a merit scale where they only obtain merit raises based on their student grades, suppression of voting laws, giving corporate tax breaks to company's that already pay no taxes with all their loopholes. Prohibited the preservation of an aquifir in South Miami, denying them the right to buy property from the Forever Florida fund. In fact, he got his hands on all 124 of Florida's trust funds. Funds put in place for Florida that would not involve burdening tax payers, calling them pork, earmarks, whatever you want to call it. His trip to Canada which was supposed to bring back jobs (only 100, and it was a deal set up by Charlie Crist, our former governor....and he was taking credit for the deal). However, while doing business in Canada 600+ jobs were lost as a direct result of all the cuts Scotts "budgetting". He had dem's thrown out of his gathering in a small town in Florida, where he is supported, while he hacked thru the Florida budgets. While it might be totally seperate from his effort to test welfare recipients...it can not help but give pause to the effort.Once aging the ACLU stands as a bulwark against the erosion of the rights of Americans.......damm leftist organization [8\|].

Unions aren't even all that big in Florida. I suppose that gave him the right he could just stomp all over Florida and only had the "little people" to worry about. But the "little people" of Florida are a breed to be reckoned with! [;)]

That story is not exactly true I‘ll bet...there will still be a good portion of Florida state workers that will be required to take drug and alcohol tests under Federal law. Thank Heavens Butch

Yeah,if it has been previously negotiated....or if their job function requires it ...in other words a public safety issue....for instance any operator vehicles or equipment will immediately be subject to a drug screening should they be involved in an accident wherein injury or death to others result.....all of that is of course fair reasonable and to be expected.

If Florida is going to slap drug tests on welfare recipients, then testing those who work for that government makes sense. Lead by example.

There will also continue to be random drug testing as well for some state employees, at least with CDL’s and I believe there should be. Butch

I'm not opposed to drug testing per se - I was drug tested in the military. I'd want everyone included, not just blue collar workers. You pee first, Mr. Scott! I am opposed to Governors who own drug testing companies, whether the stock belongs in his name or his wife's, mandating drug testing for anyone.

Yet 90 miles away sits their enemy, castro, who keeps pumping money into education. Any thoughts on this disconnect?
