State Superior Court upholds conviction in pierced cat case Anonymous Associated Press Tue Jun 14, 2011, 12:12 PM EDT WILKES-BARRE — An appeals court has upheld the conviction of a northeastern Pennsylvania animal groomer who tried to sell kittens with pierced ears and necks and bobbed tails. Animal welfare workers seized three kittens and a cat from 36-year-old Holly Crawford's Luzerne County home in 2008 after she marketed them as "gothic" online. Crawford served six months of house arrest and was ordered to close her grooming shop for at least two years as she completed probation. The state Superior Court ruled Monday in Harrisburg that Crawford's animal-cruelty conviction will stand. Crawford had argued in her appeal that the state's animal cruelty law was unconstitutionally vague and that county prosecutors presented insufficient evidence to convict her.

That there is some fucked up shit!

On pets they bob tails, bob ears, tattoo their lips, surgically implant chips.
On livestock they brand them, tattoo them, notch their ears, pierce their nose with rings or pierce their ears so they can hang number tags.
A human mommy can pierce a human baby's ears but stick an earring on a kitten and its animal cruelty?

This is one fucked up world. No wonder I have come to dislike cat fanatics.

I agree. Piercing a cat's ears is cruel, but no crueler (a lot less cruel, tbh) than what we do to the animals we eat. But they're not cute fluffy-wuffy house pets, so most people don't care. I'm a carnivore, btw, I just prefer to eat things that have lived and died peacefully. I also think it's incredibly cruel to pierce the ears of unconsenting babies. And don't even get me started on circumcision But it seems like you're going to for "no one should do anything about this cruelty because this one is so much worse" argument, and I can't agree with you there. Combatting cruel and violent treatment of anyone is the right thing to do. The world is a mean place, and wherever we start fighting it is a good place to start.

Actually I think we disagree. I do not think piercing a cat's ear is cruel. (Don't be a pussy!)

Pets are property. You get a sales receipt. You are responsible if your pet damages someone or something . . . they are your property. They, like slaves and prisoners, are entitled to humane treatment.

Is it inhumane to pierce your own ear for fashion?
Is it inhumane to pierce your slave’s ear/nipples/etc as a symbol of ownership?
Is it inhumane to pierce your livestock’s ear with a number tag so you can track them with binoculars?
Is it inhumane to pierce your livestock’s nose to you can control them without a ‘twitch’.

Pain - If we are talking about forced pain . . . then it would be inhuman to let cats have kittens w/o a spinal block like humans can.

Fashion - I would be more likely to buy that it was inhumane because we forced a fashion choice on the kitten and it was mental cruelty. No price for fashion is too great eh?

Justice - Someone please point out the inhumanity we are fighting when we punish a human, taking away their ability to conduct business and feed themselves . . . all for piercing a fucking cat’s ear?

Reality - You should be able to pierce, shave, color and fashion your property the way you want. It is a fantasy to think pets aren't property and have some kind of free will, free choice of their own. They irony is that there is probably a cat fanatic with a declawed cat reading this who vehemently disagrees with me. "Fuck fashion, save the couch!"

If I owned a tattoo/piercing parlor, would they take my business away for piercing my slave's nipples and cunt . . . she had no choice either? Cat fanatics can really be a bunch of fucking flag waving hippocrates at times.

You misunderstand me. I agree that pets are legal property and have no rights of their own, to an extent. I do think every living thing deserves the right to be treated humanely. That means some animals are meant to be eaten, but that they shouldn't be put through unnecessary pain to get some meat. Killing is necessary, torture is not. I judge pet ownership by the same rules. Sometimes it's necessary to put our pets through pain - vaccines, neutering, even branding in some cases (though I prefer freeze brands, they are less traumatic for the animal). But piercing a cats ears serves absolutely no purpose but to make a quick buck off of the pain of an animal. It doesn't improve the cat's health, make it easier to manage, keep track of it before market, or anything else. Just as docking and cropping on dogs is becoming illegal in some areas, and declawing of cats as well, I feel that piercing of a cat's ears for absolutely no good reason should not be permitted. The one right all creatures should have is the right not to be harmed because some idiot just feels like doing it.

Human slaves are a completely unrelated issue. A human slave (in the BDSM sense) can say no, either by just refusing the mod or by walking out of the relationship. A cat can't do that, and neither can a child. Neither should be subjected to this sort of treatment on the whim of a thoughtless, selfish person. That's my opinion, anyway.

i think keeping cats as pets is wrong. cats should be free to come and go as they please. dogs i got no problem with keeping as pets, dogs should only be pets, they are nature's slaves.
