That all porn is fake, especially the more "real" they try and make it. Forget everything he thinks he knows about kink. They make porn extreme to make up for the lack of emotional context. Of course, the same can be said for a lot scenes in dungeons too, lol!

Familiarize yourself with the rules and the dress code, don't start (too much), otherwise behave like you'd behave if you'd be on somebody elses' turf, don't interrupt scenes if you want to chat with people use the chill out area...

Oh and it's possibly not quite as exciting as you think it is, and nope, there won't be a bunch of hot young things jumping at you and "forcing" you to have sex with them...

Speak for yourself.  This is actually what happens to me every time I go to the local dungeon.  Hot young Dommes, who all look like bikini models, force me to have sex with them.  As soon as I'm done pleasuring one of them, another one makes me pleasure her.  And they force me to have sex with them in positions that only a gymnast or a contortionist could possibly endure.  It's terrible!  They make me feel so cheap.  They pass me around like a piece of meat.  it's absolutely degrading.

I warn anyone who is planning on visiting a dungeon for the first time to beware of the young hotties.

The cardinal rule - keep your dick in your pants.

Unless someone's wrapping it in nettles or hanging weights off it for the amusement of others.

Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to the various groups of people who are hanging around chatting. It's a good step for moving from online to IRL.

Is that why you want to move into Heff's Playboy mansion? You'd just feel more secure there?

See, I'm less sure of this one. I go to a dungeon with people, not in order to meet people. That's what munches are for. I think if some random came up and insinuated her/himself into our group while we were standing around chatting in a play environment I'd be annoyed.

Really, if you were just hanging out, not playing, and someone walked up to you and said, "Hi, just wanted introduce myself, I'm new here," you would what...give them the finger?

Also, he isn't likely to see any naked supermodels inside.  But he IS likely to see a really fat guy flogging an even fatter woman.

Hahahahaha! That is the understatement of the year.

My advice for your friend....don't bother. Dungeons are lame. It's like watching a circus without the cotton candy.

personally I would never ever go to a dungeon alone and the only time we might go is if he wants to go somewhere where he can make me scream without the police being called to our front door lol

So my advice for going to a dungeon? Go with someone that you're going to play with and clean the equipment before you use it and try to block out everyone else.

I'm always thankful that he puts a hood or blindfold on me so I don't have to see anyone and even better when he uses earplugs on me so I don't have to hear anything either lol.

Look, for you being annoyed and being rude might be synonymous, but they aren't for everyone. I'd smile, and I'd be nice, and I'd shut down the conversation as soon as possible, and I doubt the person would even realise there was anything wrong but there'd be a little 'social boundary' mark against them in my head.

Maybe it's that I don't spend much time standing around chatting in dungeon space; I'm either preparing to play, playing, or enjoying the aftermath of playing. Sorry, but I don't want strangers in my space when I'm doing any of those things.

Then you've missed the point of what I've said. The places where we play/have played have the "social" areas completely separate from the play space. People hang out and do nothing but talk in these spots. There's no playing going on. Inside, in the dungeon itself, well, hell, I wouldn't want anyone bothering us either. But that space is completely different with a different vibe altogether.

In any case, there's also nothing wrong with the OP's friend learning a little protocol when it comes to dungeon manners either.

What you actually said was this:

And the question is pretty clear: What one thing does a first time visitor to a dungeon need to know?

See any implication of social space in any of that?

uhhh...no.

look, if you need to delieanate the area of the dungeon that is not technically the dungeon but is still really part of the dungeon, be my guest. whatever works for you. you know full well what I am saying, but if you need to pick it apart so you can be right, then have at it!

also, I would say, what makes for a positive experience at a dungeon - being welcomed and feeling part of the community, or being afraid that you will never be part of the cliques that have formed? there will be no 2nd visit if the first one is not a successful. most dungeons here in the LA area that I have been a part of, would prefer the former and not the latter.

have a nice day!

...so quoting your post in its entirety is 'picking it apart'?

Possibly it's a cultural difference - here we have clubs, and clubs have dungeons. You guys might just have dungeons.

I'd also say that other people's positive experiences at a venue (let's pick a neutral word) are not strictly my responsibility. It's my responsibility to be polite and pleasant. It's not my responsibility to play hostess to a stranger who's not organised themselves people to talk to. It's not like there's a lack of resources for finding people before you go - the UK has a site called informedconsent where the vast majority of events are announced. You often get people posting saying 'I'm nervous, I'll be new' and regulars will arrange to meet them, look after them, whatever they need. That's not a difficult thing for someone to do, and it means they're taking responsibility for their own positive experience. I have a lot of respect for that approach.

First thing?

The location of the fire doors or the location of the bathrooms, depending on the person's personality and fears.
