When the cases involve adults, what say you?

I still think it's immoral and wrong and not people I would associate with but what consenting adults do between themselves is of no concern to me as long as it's not involving me in any way whatsoever.

I'm curious to see who defends incest from here so I can block them.

I still boycott woody allen movies, I think he is pathetic and sleezy.

If someone wants to have gay sex or incest sex then they take the risk of being thrown in jail, etc for doing that in states where those activities are illegal. Oral sex, and even adultery is illegal in some states. So if they partake and then get charged, they knew the risks going in.

slaveluci -> RE: The David Epstein incest case (6/12/2011 9:06:23 AM)

Interesting take, I suppose. I don't plan to block anyone for stating their honest feelings about something. I hope the replies to this are made after actually reading the article and considering what he's written and not just knee-jerk, gut reactions to the word "incest." I think the article is very balanced. His summation includes:

"I wouldn't prosecute David Epstein. It isn't necessary. The incest taboo is strong enough to withstand the occasional reckless fool, and I don't want cops poking around in people's sex lives. But incest is wrong. There's a rational basis to forbid it. And we shouldn't be afraid to say so."

Interesting article, indeed.........luci

Yes, as in bdsm, i am well aware that certain acts I enjoy are illegal in certain states (& legal in others). Some (weird) laws are down right stupid and ridiculous but until they are repealed, they are the law (of that state). [8|]

slaveluci -> RE: The David Epstein incest case (6/12/2011 9:12:46 AM)

And, just as a sidenote, I am in no way comparing BDSM to incest. Just thought it was interesting that a kind of "fuck 'em, they know the consequences" attitude was taken and we're on a BDSM site where lots of activities are illegal in lots of our home areas.......luci

Don't roll you eyes at me! [8D] I think you just kind of stated my point. Yes, incest is illegal. The article points out that some people (very few) think THAT is "stupd and ridiculous." Now we're on the same page. We're stipulating that it's illegal and most people think it's one of the worst things humans can do. Now on to considering the points made in the article please. That's kind of why I shared it.......luci

angelikaJ -> RE: The David Epstein incest case (6/12/2011 9:16:20 AM)

They mention Woody Allen. There is a whole lot of grey there for me. The reason being Mia Farrow's daughter, whom he began having an affair with and later married... her name is Soon Yi Previn.
Woody did not marry Mia, and Soon Yi was the adopted daughter of Mia Farrow and Andre Previn.
She was an adult when they began their relationship and Soon Yi has said that she never saw Allen as any kind of father figure to her; that Andre Previn was her adoptive father.
I can however see how upsetting it would be for Mia and Woody's son Ronan Farrow and of course to Mia.

John Phillips initited an incestuous relationship with his daughter Mackensie Phillips when she was 19, the night before her first wedding.

I think because of the element of power parental incest is wrong. I tend to agree with the idea that there is no such thing as a consentual incestual relationship between parent and child even if the child is grown.

Same thing for aunts and uncles... grandparents, the element of power is there.

Very good way of summing it up. I thought the article's writer did a good job of presenting all the arguments that defenders of (adult) incest could bring up. But, in the end, you and he both come to the same conclusion. It just ain't right.......luci

I think people tend to know the risks being into bdsm and on this and other similar sites. The odds of being charged for private possibly illegal activities is very low, cops usually have more serious crimes to investigate and prosecute (like pedophiles, etc). I am not sure why this incest case came to the attention of the law but it has and i guess its sensational enough to warrant this public attention.

The law is behind the times (regarding most bdsm activities) but changing them is a very low priority, especially given the economy and all that. Thats life. You pay our money and take your chances.

What do you want/expect people to say? [8|]

Is that an eye roll smiley? I thought it was just an I-am-perplexed smiley.
The laws i was referring to as being stupid and ridiculous are ones like the law that makes having sex on a table in a butcher shop illegal. Like really, really odd strange laws that leave you scratching your head wondering why they even went to the trouble of enacting those laws. I dont consider that a law against incest is stupid either. Imo, the risk of birth defects is a good reason for that law.

peachgirl -> RE: The David Epstein incest case (6/12/2011 9:38:27 AM)

Call me old-fashioned...part of a parent's job is to nurture and protect, from everyone, including ourselves. That is a responsibility that doesn't go away, no matter how old you, or your children, are.

The leap from fondling, petting etc to intercourse is pretty big. I wonder what was happening in the home before she became "legal".

LillyBoPeep -> RE: The David Epstein incest case (6/12/2011 11:23:24 AM)

i think it's icky -- i agree with others who say that there's always an element of power between a parent and a child.

gross.

The children that can result from such a union make incest laws relevant, and not just about consenting sex...

Since we have the laws for opposite sexed couples that are too closely related, we shouldn't give gay people a pass. If gay people want equality, they have to take the equality that limits their behavior.

She was a child when Woody Allen came into her life. She was a sibling to Woody Allen's child. Mia and Woody were not married, but they had an extremely long term relationship which resulted in children. In California if you cannot have intimate relationships with stepchildren after you divorce their parent, it is considered incest.

Has it struck anyone else how the author compares incest to homosexuality? What an asshole.
