In the winter, 72, in the summer 76, although that number has started to creep a little lower. The older I get, the hotter I seem to run.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The Thermostat (6/11/2011 8:48:11 AM)

I don't have a thermostat in my little basement apt & I just have a space heater. So when I feel cold, I turn it on, when I feel hot I turn it off & open a window. This has been a very cold summer here for the most part. So I've had the heater on more than off. When it gets into the 80's & 90's outside I open the windows to let the heat in.

I would die if I kept it much below 70. I have arthritis & anything much colder than that makes my hands & feet ache. I'm going to get a couple more heaters before winter plus some rugs, I hope. 85 would make me sweat. But you are a cat, Fae, so of course it's perfect for you!!

*thinks Linnea should move to Ecuador and take me with her.*

I think Miss Sunshine is brilliant!! When you ready to go??

Aynne88 -> RE: The Thermostat (6/11/2011 9:35:36 AM)

Wow you guys a lot of you like it hot. I live in Maine so I think anything about 65 is fine, plus I am usually cooking or cleaning or running around and I get hot so I keep it on 65 usually, 68 or 70 in the winter, heating oil is crazy high! It cost 1500.00 to fill our dual tanks so you can damn well be certain I will throw on a sweater before I crank up that  thermostat. My guilty indulgence is the A/C which I use frequently in the summer, I HATE being too hot and my bunnies are indoor ones and rabbits do not fare well at all in hot weather, so I'd rather pay a bit more on the electric bill for A/C than for oil in the winter.  It reached 90 a few days this week and I was miserable. That A/C was cranking thank god!

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The Thermostat (6/11/2011 9:58:26 AM)

I used to like it a lot colder, but then I got old & arthritic & now the cold hurts. I used to have a kerosene heater that would heat up my whole apartment for very little money. Sometimes I can put on 2 pairs of socks & still have to go to bed to get my feet warmed up. And when my feet are cold, my entire being is cold. So yeah, I like it warmer.

I also discovered a few years back that if it's too cold when I'm sleeping that I will sweat more than when it's too warm. I think it's my body's attempt to warm itself to combat the cold. I've found that I sleep better when it's 72 in my room than when it's 65.

BonesFromAsh -> RE: The Thermostat (6/11/2011 10:10:55 AM)

Ideal temp for me is 60 degrees. In the winter, if I'm cold, I put a sweater on and in the summer I have a love affair with my AC.

85 degrees would cause my brain to melt out of my ears. Not good.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: The Thermostat (6/11/2011 10:36:52 AM)

My thermostat is set between 74 and 78, depending on the outside temperature.

Fae.....really....REALLY???....85?????  Are you living in the Arctic Circle?  Here, it's 78 in the summer, and windows open the rest of the year, yes, even in winter......I didn't even turn the heat on but maybe a dozen times last winter, and even then, it was just to take the chill off.  Any time it's warmer than 50 during the day in the off-summer months here, my windows are open, and I'm still running around nekkid!  Well, granted, the blinds are down..don't want to frighten the neighbors or the birds in the trees......but they are open.

Think you i's called 'Feline' without cause ? i fantasize of oversized piles of clean laundry new and hot from the dryer ! Oh for a giant laptop made of warm !

Aylee -> RE: The Thermostat (6/11/2011 12:30:46 PM)

The thermostat is set at 78 all year around. Now, there are times that I just turn the thing off and have the windows open, but I keep the house a pretty much constant temperature.

DesFIP -> RE: The Thermostat (6/11/2011 1:35:14 PM)

65F in winter for sleeping, but closer to 80 with the woodstove for while up.
Either 76 or 78 in summer. 85 would work if there was minimal humidity. But when it's 85 here, the humidity is always about the same.

What "other"? Choices 1 and 2 include all possibilities!

I suppose, though, 1 and 2 could change with the seasons, to save energy.

FelineFae -> RE: The Thermostat (6/11/2011 3:45:42 PM)

There are some people with fancy-smancy thermostats that can control the humidity level in their homes.
Some like the air dry or a little muggy.

I chose "Other" because I didn't feel like doing the conversion to real degrees, so I don't know.
I like it around 19-21 degrees most of the time.

I totally Dommed the thermostat at work and am part of the "put a sweater on" crowd.

Now I'm working from home.

I don't like the smell of heaters or noise of AC. Right now, it's in the high 50's outside and maybe 10 degrees warmer inside. I'm bundled up. I can't wait to go to bed with piles and piles of covers.

When I lived in Florida I kept the AC thermostat at 80 degrees at night and 76-78 during the day. We were able to get through the winter without turning the heat on once. My housemate used a space heater and I used sweaters. I'm more insulated than she is :)

Here in Massachusetts, the temperature has bounced between 60's and 90's over the last two weeks. I've gone swimming in the lake twice but now Mom's ready to turn the heat back on.

LaTigresse -> RE: The Thermostat (6/11/2011 7:48:25 PM)

In the winter it's in the low 60s, in the summer, when the AC is on, mid 70s during the day then down a few degrees at night with an addition fan blowing on me. The ceiling fans run year round.

sunshinemiss -> RE: The Thermostat (6/11/2011 9:53:34 PM)

I'd like to have the thermometer set at ... "need to cuddle Sunny in order to get warm."  That's the PERFECTEST tempachur.

gungadin09 -> RE: The Thermostat (6/12/2011 1:49:45 PM)

One person agrees: 85 degrees is perfect.
