mnottertail -> RE: Libyian War Costs Skyrocket for US (6/9/2011 2:33:15 PM)

Well, ain't that the shits, warplanners who dont know what war costs.  They better wise up pretty fucking quick, its coming directly out of their budget.

Before you get to ask that question....could you supply me with a link to the same thread you started over Bush's Iraq adventure.....yanno just to keep things in balance and demonstrate that you are seeking to participate in some sort of intellectually honest political discussion.

Slavehandsome -> RE: Libyian War Costs Skyrocket for US (6/9/2011 2:35:48 PM)

We're too busy working our fingers to the bone to be able to make the trek to D.C. to march. We're still trying to pay down the debt on the Grenada invasion. The good news, is that in a related story, Halliburton's shares climbed a notch today, in a surprise rally while most other stocks are taking a big hit. Now over to you for Sports, FatDomDaddy.

Owner59 -> RE: Libyian War Costs Skyrocket for US (6/9/2011 2:38:53 PM)

Why do you hate the troops?

Slavehandsome -> RE: Libyian War Costs Skyrocket for US (6/9/2011 2:45:30 PM)

Nobody 'hates the troops'. What taxpayers hate, is when the supposed servant government shovels money at private corporations to outsource laundry, meals and other things at a Gouging rate, depleting billions while putting our sons, fathers, brothers and neighbors in harm's way, for their selfish profit. Only the Westbrook Baptist Church members are laughing about bodies coming home. Not to mention the bodies we've slaughtered in foreign lands. Everybody supports the troops, just not the decision by the tyrants to put them in harm's way.

There should be a special tax for foreign wars and love bombs. It would serve as a referendum.

slvemike4u -> RE: Libyian War Costs Skyrocket for US (6/9/2011 3:07:21 PM)

Ahhh,so you are seeking to hoist the hypocrites on their own petard....because we all know that their is no intellectually honest way to agree in one instance and oppose in another. Not in a world of neo con black and white ...no we mustn't allow for the option where an honest citizen could have....let's say supported Afghanistan while opposing the misadventure that Iraq became....and than years later, while regretting the necessity wholeheartedly approved of his Presidents joining in a coalitions attempt to prevent genocide in Libya
No we can not have citizens taking these events as separate situations and judging each one on it's merits....a citizen must choose to be a hawk or a dove....and hold fast to that choice lest you come along and brand him/her a hypocrite.
Does that about sum it up Fatty?

Slavehandsome -> RE: Libyian War Costs Skyrocket for US (6/9/2011 3:12:51 PM)

It was neither Bush's decision to invade Afghanistan, nor Obama's decision to invade Libya. Both spineless men answer to the same masters, and they have done a fine job obeying. When the U.N. passed a resolution saying it was illegal for the U.S. to invade, Bush obeyed his masters and bucked the U.N.. Obama is displaying that he too, is able to be re-elected, due to his track record of obeying his masters. Meanwhile, the U.S. dollar continues to swirl down the toilet, and U.S. corporations are shipping off jobs as fast as the sweatshops can take them. Until somebody holds them accountable, why not?

I am protesting that the joint chiefs of staff and all the war planners in the pentagon dont know what a fuckin war costs.  That is the epitome of ineptitude.

Now THAT'S a fucking shocker... But certainly NOTHING compared to these figures and what we could be doing instead with the money we've spent in Iraq and Afghanistan:

Cost of War is a real-time cost estimation counter for the Iraq War and the Afghanistan War maintained by the National Priorities Project. As of June 1, 2010 both wars had a combined estimated cost of over 1 trillion dollars, separately the Iraq War had an estimated cost of 725 billion dollars and the Afghanistan War had an estimated cost of 275 billion dollars. The number is based on US Congress appropriations and does not include "future medical care for soldiers and veterans wounded in the war".[1] [edit] Exhibit Based on National Priorities Project Cost of War concept, American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) launched an exhibit title titled "Cost of War" in May 2007, at the close of the National Eyes Wide Open Exhibit. It features ten budget trade-offs displayed on 3x7 foot full-color vinyl banners. AFSC uses to cost of the Iraq War estimated by economists Linda Bilmes and Joseph Stiglitz in the article "Economic Costs Of The Iraq War: An Appraisal Three Years After The Beginning Of The Conflict", written in January 2006 that estimates the total daily cost of the Iraq War at $720 million [1]. AFSC uses The National Priorities Project's per unit costs for human needs such as health care and education to make budget comparisons between the U.S. budget for human needs to
"One Day of the Iraq War" [2]. The ten banners read[3]:
One Day of the Iraq War = 720 Million Dollars, How Would You Spend it?
One Day of the Iraq War = 84 New Elementary Schools
One Day of the Iraq War = 12,478 Elementary School Teachers
One Day of the Iraq War = 95,364 Head Start Places for Children One Day of the Iraq War = 1,153,846 Children with Free School
Lunches
One Day of the Iraq War = 34,904 Four-Year Scholarships for University Students
One Day of the Iraq War = 163,525 People with Health Care
One Day of the Iraq War = 423,529 Children with Health Care
One Day of the Iraq War = 6,482 Families with Homes
One Day of the Iraq War = 1,274,336 Homes with Renewable Energy

Thank you George Walker Bush

I am simply asking where is the peace movement?

It seems to be a pretty simple question

Aneirin -> RE: Libyian War Costs Skyrocket for US (6/10/2011 2:27:13 AM)

War it seems has a limitless budget and that because when the warriors are done the suits will come to take the resources to enrich themselves further.

Ever notice how western forces never answer the humanitarian need in countries that do not have envied resources or political clout ?

The war in Libya has less to do with an oppressed people and more to do with what resource the country has, we are again fighting for oil. The people of the country, in reality, they don't matter beyond their use as a reason to be there to sell to those that would like to believe we are there for humanitarian reasons.

When people finally understand the mindset behind our method, then maybe we can decide what it is we want in this world as a majority and stop the minority from destroying our lives.
