Yeah but theyre overdoing their ad hominem crap

How many times can these leftists scream 'fire" and expect everyone to come running

His "Secessionist stuff" is way overblown. He is a strict Constitutionalist and was arguing for the sovereignty of the states. You ar right, he could be very formidable. Texas has fare the recession better than most states, he has solid conservative credibility on virtually all issues, and doesnt have the taint of Romneycare. The ad hominem crew will have a ball with another Tx governor and tying him back to the Bush's, though.

Well, my main exposure to lefty thought at the individual level is the internet, and if one of the 30 odd Soros funded sites says something, the lemmings will follow, no matter how many times they are led off the cliff.

The heart has nothing to do with it Mark, while I have no doubt he could win the nomination( what and who do we have so far in that thing....the seven dwarfs...or is it mental pygmies ?)....I just don't see him as a threat in the general.Far too much baggage, too many inflammatory statements he will need to distance himself from.....add to that the hay that can be made by the secessionist shit and you have a train wreck of a candidacy.
While the right would eat his shit up...and the cons will slather over his economic policies...independents will run away en masse.....and it goes without saying that Democrats would cringe at the thought of him taking the oath.
The Republican issue is the positions needed to win their fractured party are diametrically opposed to the run that would be needed in the general....so whoever comes out of their convention than faces the choice of alienating those who nominated him or being trounced in the general. As long as the fringe of their party calls the shots during the nomination policy this problem will haunt them.

I assume you intended that to support that the claims about his secessionist views are blown way out of proportion. Even Oleblowhard says very clearly that he didnt talk about secession, just sovereignty.

Unfortunately mike, there is a large section of the population that thinks inflammatory is good! He could appeal to enough of the independents that think we are so fucked that we need a firebrand like him to get us out of the funk we are in at present. I'd take him seriously no matter how distasteful the thought of it is.

But to appeal to those independents he must move towards the center, thereby pissing off the base whose ass he would have had to have spent the past 6 months kissing. The Republican Party as presently constituted is dysfunctional....to succeed intra party is to poison the well when it comes to the general....and therein lies their problem.Till they address those issues they are susceptible to any Dem who can somewhat safely move towards the center daring their opponent to follow them.

Is this about Perry? In comparison to Obama and Biden, he's a milquetoast.

He's already pissed off the base. Remember hell week after Meet the Press? How many of his backers dumped him and quit contributing? Can't win elections without major money these days and I don't think he's got the support to get the donations necessary. I's might flock to him but will they open their wallets to him? I don't think so.

He's not toast.. he's burnt toast.

Nah,life is treating me like a pinatta....but I get to come here and reaffirm that my mind still functions, while seeing multiple examples of the horrors that ensue when brain function ceases.
So all in all I'm happy as a clam

Will all the people who donated to Newt's campaign get refunds?

Or has all that money been spent on 'expenses'?

I think Newt's one bedrock belief is in just being Newt.
