One time I brought home a stray tortie point Siamese. I tried different names on her but she didn't respond to any of them. Several weeks into her being my housemate, I was sitting on the couch & looking at her sitting in the hallway to my left. After about 10 minutes, I said, "Lucy?" When my daughter was a toddler, we were visiting friends & she wandered off. I finally found her under the neighbor's porch. I asked what she was doing under there & she said, "Talking to the kitty." very matter-of-factly. I asked if the kitty was talking back to her & she said, "Of course, Mommy!" Like I was the fool to ask such a question.
