pahunkboy -> Ideas needed- noise gets into my house-help (6/7/2011 7:42:48 AM)

So-  lately-  noise -  gets in the house.  2 loud radios-, but also some type of construction over night.   The vibrations- a base like sound gets in.   I tried changes where I sleep- and a nature machine.    The sounds are not too bad during the day--  but at night they are.

Any suggestions?

Call the police and make a report about noise at night. Your municipality probably has a noise ordinanace.

....the govt would be doing the construction.    They are working on the road and stabilizing the river bank.

It doesn't matter who is making the noise.

I dunno, Hilly.. if the river is in danger of flooding, then night work may be inevitable.

cant hurt for Hunky to call and report, though//

Otherwise, Hunky.. get earplugs, perhaps tack blankets or something on the walls and over the windows for the duration..

I think the noise is less- on the first floor.

I hesitate to complain for now.   When they do work- they go up and down... so ....who knows.  Hopefully I can get my sleeping pill rx today.

Many places do construction only at night when the volume of cars on the road is less. In NYC this is standard.

Can you sleep with earplugs in?

windchymes -> RE: Ideas needed- noise gets into my house-help (6/7/2011 8:38:29 AM)

I also recommend earplugs. Those spongy kinds that you squeeze and stick in your ears work great, and they're super-cheap.

Drug store, health & beauty section of the grocery store, Walmart or K-mart. I've seen & bought them just about everywhere.

Music stores carry very soft ear plugs that you can push in - they stay. Also - if you know someone at a truck rental or moving company, they might be willing to let you borrow furniture blankets for the duration. they're OOOGLY - but, tack them on the walls and the noise level will really decrease.

Any suggestions?

Put your bed on rubber pads and stack on another mattress?

Perchance also sound insulate the room?

juliaoceania -> RE: Ideas needed- noise gets into my house-help (6/7/2011 9:40:50 AM)

There are things you can do in your room...

You can replace the windows in your room. Aluminum windows are better for sound abatement. You can do a search online for sound proofing

You can also put padding up on the walls of your bedroom. Foam mattress padding that is shaped like egg cartons can really reduce the noise, and if your room is smallish, it probably would not be terribly expensive.

Me, I sleep with a fan going on high to mitigate noise outside because I like living in urban environments with train noises, traffic noises... it works well enough for me, creating a white noise filter.

I agree with Hill, the state department of health may also be willing to come out and take Db readings. And if that doesn't work, start collecting africanized bees and fed ex em to the people with the radios. Sure using the latter you'll probably end up in jail. But hey, if you were going to follow MY advice, it would've happened sooner or later anyway.

Last night was not as bad... I think they have moved further down the road.

I had the ear plugs near just in case.

cuckoldmepls -> RE: Ideas needed- noise gets into my house-help (6/8/2011 5:04:30 PM)

The cops can't do anything about noise from construction, but I would definitely complain about music that gets into your house. That's way too loud. Usually all it takes is one knock on the door, and people don't ever want the cops to come back.

Try hanging 2 blankets over your window. I think most noise comes through the windows.
