Hello Ladies, I've had a profile on CollarMe since 04 which I think was the year of it's origin, I'm not sure I however truly believe 2004 is when it was created, at any rate, CollarMe indeed has been around for awhile and in all this time remained a free website. At first I thought the membership was free just to suck people in when the site was new only to subsequent charge a fee once the site grew and more people became aware of it. However that does not seem to have been the plan, while ALT, FemDomme Society and others, you must pay to contact and even view other members profiles, I'm some what amazed we do not have to the same here. Is anyone else surprised, knows who owns it, and how does CollarMe make it's money is it from banners and advertisements I'm just curious, as well truly bewildered it has not become a pay site, after all this time.

When I joined thought the same. However i is quite possible to sustain a website with advertising. Plenty of Fish . com pulls down millions for it's owner. http://www.inc.com/magazine/20090101/and-the-money-comes-rolling-in.html I see no reason why other sites couldn't be successful enough via the same methods.

I'm not going to complain that it's free. I don't have the disposable income to pay if that became necessary and the owners have had 7 yrs to make it a pay site if it did indeed start in '04. Free good, pay bad. [8D]

It actually started in 2002. That's been in a few different threads in the last couple of days. I was referring to the people who complain about the ads on the other side, but they don't want to have to pay a membership fee either. Kinda like the people who bitch about paying taxes & in the next breath bitch about the infrastructure of the country. Dumbasses!!

CM ads are not that bad. Try to go to some popular sites and it is CRAZY. When I see that- I click off. There is seldom anything I must MUST MUSSSSSSSSSSST see.

What ads?? Oh, there they are... my window is smaller and cuts them off so I dont even see them... hahahaha There are enough free sites that there is no reason to go to a pay site. I think it depends on how greedy the owners of a site are too.

I barely notice any ads at all, except for Extreme Restraints, and I like that I can get to the Extreme Restraints site directly from CollarMe. As for the site being free, I think it's amazing how elaborate it is and how much is offered, all for free; I'm very grateful. Spy

Hello Spy and i sinerely thank you for your reply, but would you please be so kind to tell me this, if CollarMe was not free would you pay then, knowing what you know about the site now. And if you had no knowldge what-so-ever about it, E.G. you just came across it via a google search, how likely is it you would join then? For myself I might join if i had just learned about it but would not pay one red cent for it now that i am aware of all the fakes and frauds on it.

I like the ad's - in fact, it confirms my opinion of paysites, since most of the pics of women in those ad's claiming to be "local", are clearly not even from the same hemisphere. But at worst, you have to look at naked chicks, the horror. I don't think AFF is too bad as pay sites go, but it fluctuates. You pays your money and you takes your chances.

That's a pretty good question! All things remaining equal, I'd probably pay a few bucks to join, because the user base is pretty good and the site tends to stay up and running without a lot of hiccups. But boy oh boy do I sometimes turn demanding when I start laying out cash! To be quite honest, my friend, I'd probably start becoming really vociferous about some issues that don't bother me at all as long as it's a free site. I mean I think the admins are terrific, really going above and beyond for a free site but if I ever had to pay I'd start to become pretty insistent that the search features and interests be refined, and I'd also really want to be able to access the mail from an alternate email address that was more work friendly than needing to go to Collar Me. I wouldn't even have any constructive criticism I would just be like, "Yo fix this!" To me that's the biggest difference between a pay site and a free one. There is entitlement that comes with something I pay for vs something where I'm helping generate revenue but not ponying up anything out of my own pocket!

If it became a pay site, I wouldn't be able to stay due to my limited income. I need food, gas, car insurance, & a roof over my head tyvm. I love being on this side, the other side? Meh. I like the way that Fetlife does it: free unless you want to pay for some special features. I can still access anyone's profile & comment all I want without needing to pay. I don't really mind the ads here because I know that because of them I don't have to pay to use the site. There are some really cool features here that aren't available on some other sites. I like the search feature on the other side; I haven't really figured out how to get the results I'm looking for on this side, so I tend to give up. Probably just one of those things where my brain processes differently than the search programmers' brains. All in all, I don't really have any complaints about this site. If people are fake, it doesn't really affect me so much. If someone tries to scam me, I delete & block & go on with my life. It's just the net, after all. I don't give out personal information to random strangers, I have no face pics. One of the features on the other side that I just love is the one where I can hover the cursor over an email & delete it "unread" if I don't wish to deal with it or the person behind it. The only feature I would like changed is the "Admirers" thing. I'd prefer to have control over who can stalk me without having to block them.
