This was a really good book I bought a few years ago, it is constantly revised for the current job market, and it tells you what types of resumes there are out there, which format to use based on your circumstances, and when a CV might be appropriate.... I would recommend this book...

What I do know is he needs to sell his skill set.   That means using which ever words that will nail the sale.   ...some are lucky to know what resume is-  or cum laude.   Let alone to turn the sale into a Latin lesson.

Your contributions on this thread clearly delineate that you do not know what you're talking about.  Hopefully the OP will listen to those of us who, in my opinion, do know what we're talking about.

OP, if your resume is mostly that, a resume, and you don't have lots of continuing education, research papers, published works etc., with which to populate a cv, you could list this at the top of your resume, after your objective, and call it "Achievements".  It would look like something like this:

ACHIEVEMENTS

* Invited speaker, 2011 Megatron Computer Conference, Charleston, SC.  Presentation topics were "Internet Security 101 for the Nonprofit Professional" and "Advanced Internet Security for the Nonprofit Professional".

You do need at least one more achievement, as it looks strange to have a list of "achievements" with only one achievement.  You should put them in order of importance, with the most important at the top.  Instead of "Achievements", you could also use "Distinctions", "Presentations", "Professional Activities", etc.

I would flat out say you gave a 123-XYZ seminar with some other panelists.  No one knows what a curricculim vitea is.

Speak for yourself.

Geez. Are you aware of how making these types of absolute statements that are easily disputed only makes you look less intelligent?

I don't think one can get away with a generic resume any longer. During my last job hunt I tailored my resume for each position I applied for. While it was mostly the same, there were a few tweaks here and there that applied to the employer I was sending my resume to.

I do think CalifChick's suggestion is a good one.

Yes I know that there are major gaps between jobs but those are jobs that are not computer related and I omitted them. If your Hiring me for a Computer position, you don't want to know about my work as a Security Guard or in Retail sales.

It needs some work on the commas (I'm hoping you typed it here and didn't copy/paste).  Also, I wouldn't put in things like "Used Remedy ticketing system to triage cases to other divisions", unless that is something that is known in your industry.  You want to avoid jargon that only applies to one company, or one industry, unless you're looking for another job in that industry.

I would also work on action words.  Change "Can repair, upgrade, and build computers" to something like, "Ability to build desktop computers as well as repair and upgrade both desktop and mainframe systems."  Change "Responsible, for providing of high quality technical support, (High Speed Data, Wi-Fi,  Voice over IP) with first call resolution, for several thousand clients" to something like "Maintained an environment of superior quality technical support with XX% of issues resolved on the first call for X,XXX clients, using High Speed Data connections, Wi-Fi, and VOIP" if that is true and doesn't make you look bad.  For instance, if your percentage is ten percent, I wouldn't say that.  Also, I wouldn't say "several thousand", but use numbers, like "over 3,000".

Change the "Employment" heading to "Experience".  Get rid of "Personal Info" unless that is a placeholder for your name, address, phone and email.  Do not put any personal information such as hobbies, family, pets, etc.  Do not put anything about "references available on request" as it is unnecessary.  Change "Skills" heading to "Technical Skills".  Also I think "Have built and modified websites" is redundant, unless you move it to the beginning of that section, and change it to "Proficiency building and modifying websites using... (list of programs)."

That's my first impression.

~FAST REPLY~

A CV is only going to be appropriate in a circumstance where extensive education, publication or things such as this seminar apply. If he has nothing more than a bachelor's degree or less and this is the first/only seminar he was speaking at, a CV is going to look sparse and empty.

CVs' tend to apply more to management and academic positions as opposed to the simple mid level position. In other words, if the OP is looking to head up the IT Security Department, a CV may apply. However, if he is just looking for a job in IT security it might not.

Putting this as "relevant experience" on his resume is going to be his most likely bet. Having business cards and copies of that resume at the event even better.

This pretty much decides the CV topic.

OP-  I read your write up.   I guess what I am looking for is what set you apart from the others.  That thing that jumps out at me- that aha!  This guy does solutions.

I like this part:

Highest call resolution and volume on the call center floor for six consecutive years.
