Kaliko -> Fighting cats - advice? (5/30/2011 3:01:03 AM)

Anybody have advice or had good luck with how to stop two indoor cats from fighting? One is a fairly new cat (last few months) so I'm positive it's territorial. They can exist in the same room without killing each other and can usually eat next to each other, but there is at least one, sometimes two, very aggressive cat fights a day.

It will settle down in a while, but you can actually do a bit more, there is some stuff that calms them down... When I got my dog the cats went a bit mental first, this calmed them down a lot and they accepted doggie into the family, with the 2nd dog it took them 10 minutes...

Will do. Thank you. I had heard of it once before, but hadn't known anyone who used it. Good to hear it works.

It's also absolutely harmless, so you can give each of them a squirt with it, it will make them smell "comfortable" for the other cat. With the 1st dog, I sprayed the cats' blankets to calm them down, they were all over them, so I checked with the vet if it is harmless in case the dog licks it, after they verified it, I squirted the Dobie with it, woke up the next morning and 2 cats were cuddled up with the dog.

I was first quite suspicious of the claims of how much it calms cats down, kinda floored me how well it worked. I now spray the transport boxes when they are having a trip to the vet for their jabs or injuries, it means I get them into the boxes without looking like I wrestled with tigers and they are much more quiet during the drive there.

Wow!! Miss Constanze, this is wonderful news. I was just going to give the advice to stay out of their fights & they'd work it out among themselves. But this stuff sounds like a miracle. I'd like to get some for their approved places to sleep & for their carriers when I have to put them in them.

Yes.

Spray water at first....Spray bottles.

Next week, spray bottles with (very) nominal amounts of vinegar.

Week 3.....gasoline.
