1)   There's this weird thing about email on Yahoo.....there's some kind of chat thing on email that people deem you to be appropriate to chat with.  Don't know 'em, don't want to know 'em, not quite sure how they know me.

2)   I get links from people who seem to know my raison de' etre....and frankly...they know more about me than I know about myself....and I'm here to tell you...I think about it....and it's freaking me out.

3)   Uhhhhhh.....that's about it....and it's still freaking me out.

Another good reason to not use Yahoo for my email. Use Hotmail & Gmail & I'm happy. I hardly ever get random strangers trying to chat with me.

Make sure your settings are "chat with friends only".  That way the only people who can  IM you are the ones on your friends list.  Go to preferences and you'll find it there in the main box.  Hope this helps.

It'a not just in the e-mail/inbox thing on Yahoo.  For about the last 3 months or so, I've been getting unsolicited chat requests from Lord knows who......I just block 'em, but I'd sure like to know how the heck they found me......I have two account names I use for chat under the main one, and I get them on all of them.

A couple of friends got hacked on YH, and also one that uses hotmail.  I haven't had any problems with YH since I started using it, and I've had the same account for 8 years now.  I haven't upgraded to the beta YH email, probably won't until I absolutely have to.  I do use the chat from the inbox feature when I'm at work.....that way, the messenger isn't downloaded to the computer, but you still have access to chat.

There are 4 different Yahoo messengers, one is the software you download onto your computer, its stand alone and the best imo, because you can set it to not accept messages from anyone that is not on your list. There is the msgr for mobile cells, there is messenger for the web which is seperate from your email and the last one is messenger that appears in your email. I have not tried the new yahoo email so it may be different but the messenger that is in the email seems to allow people to send messages regardless, my yahoo wont let me block them, that feature is disabled for some reason. [:@] If you go to other features and i think its under the spam section, there is a place to block people on messenger, yours might work. But if you are using yahoo 9, then it might be in a different spot or maybe they do it differently.

Also, when you signed up yahoo asked a bunch of personal questions, that created your profile and there is another section you have to access to make that info private. That is probably how they know stuff about you.

Then there is also a section where you can set it so yahoo doesnt sell your info to others for advertising purposes, that could also be a source of these messages you are getting.

Its like you have to go thru each section and link in yahoo to find out what you have agreed to and what info is public without you being aware of it. [:@]

Also, if you are hacked and find out someone has used your address book to email to your contacts then change your password to something very hard to break. Mix Caps with lower case, add in numbers, make it hard for them.

You prob know this already but if its the Yahoo online email account type then chat status can be set to available, invisible or you can sign out. If you have joined any yahoo groups your chat status will appear on messages you post or in the membership area of da group.

This post has a lot of merit... How did you rack up such a high posting score and manage to avoid hospitalization?

If you've signed into Yahoo chat, you can choose to make yourself invisible to all and then highlight the names using the right tab on your mouse and make yourself available only to the people you want.  That way no one knows you're online except for those you choose.  Or you can just go invisible and just msg the people who show up as online, same result no one knows you're signed in unless you let them know.  And the invisible detector has been disabled by yahoo so no one can find out if you're hiding or not.

I've used yahoo for many many years, nearly 13 years if I remember correctly, and never had any problems at all.

The LSD hasn't quite hit yet.  I'm able to concentrate as needed.
