sunshinemiss -> Hiding Ads (5/22/2011 8:18:04 AM)

HI folks!
Anyone know how to hide the ads on the other side? I'm getting love notes from the Korean police, and I'd like it if the ads just didn't show up on my computer. I don't really want to be deported.

Can y'all help?

Thanks,
sunshine

Absolutely!

http://adblockplus.org/

Install that, and then you right-click the ad, select 'block image', and block the object. Ten seconds' work.

It also works on specific images, if you keep catching sight of a particular cock shot or whatever - it lets you pick how specific you want to be.

Bit of a problem however. . .

From what I gather from your original posting, and if you are located in Korea, AdBlocker only blocks them from showing on your webbrowser.  The data still gets requested from your PC and sent to your PC, which is where tracing would still show activity.

You would need a Popup blocker or AD Blocker that actually does an install or move to a secure VPN entirely.

Something like Super Ad Blocker on CNet's Download site I believe does the trick.

Just an FYI.

Ah, ok - sorry, I should have double-checked the small-print.

littlewonder -> RE: Hiding Ads (5/22/2011 9:50:17 AM)

I don't really think there is any way you can block them completely. They are the revenue for collarme. Like another said, even if you block the ad the code is still reported.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Hiding Ads (5/22/2011 10:55:45 AM)

I agree with wishing to be able to block them, but for a different reason.

When without home internet, I have taken my laptop to the library to check mail, post on the boards, etc. My local library is quite small (no little private cubicles or anything), so I am at a table in the open. I would rather not offend someone who happens by and glances in my laptop's direction see images they don't wish to see.

At home, they seem much easier to just ignore, lol. I understand that it is CM's bread and butter, but having a "text only" option or something would be nice. It would be helpful to those with slow computers as well, since they wouldn't have to wait for all the pictures to load.

TheHeretic -> RE: Hiding Ads (5/22/2011 2:20:29 PM)

If you just don't want the images scrolling by while you are on the home page, and you use Internet Explorer, open the favorites bar, and adjust the width. Voila!

Since I usually have that bar open, I didn't even know the ads were there for quite a while.

littlewonder -> RE: Hiding Ads (5/22/2011 2:51:50 PM)

don't think that's gonna help her with the Korean police lol

flcouple2009 -> RE: Hiding Ads (5/22/2011 2:58:16 PM)

Yeah that was so off based from her problem you can't think someone actually read her post.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Hiding Ads (5/22/2011 3:57:07 PM)

I hate the idea of not being able to send and receive cmail and such. What if I used something like hot spot shield to show me in the USA? Would that work (although I hate using the thing - it's a pain)....

THoughts?

And yeah, "not seeing" them isn't gonna stop the police from seeing them.

Maybe I should block Collarme? Is there a way to do that? I could go in, change my profile with a note that says "DON"T send me a c-mail....

But it's not like there aren't a bunch of people from Korea on there.

Grrrrr... If I hadn't gotten a BUNCH of Korean police mail recently, it wouldn't be an issue...

littlewonder -> RE: Hiding Ads (5/22/2011 4:21:30 PM)

I wish I could think of a way around this for you. I think as long as you are logged onto c.com with a Korean server then you're SOL.

Maybe if you can find an offshore server to connect with then you'd be ok but I have no idea how to do that.

Edited to add:

maybe that can help?

Nope. Not one bit. I'll leave the guidance on how to violate local laws to others, and hope she gets the needed advice in a private message.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Hiding Ads (5/23/2011 4:29:33 AM)

I am not sure if it would solve your problem but if you do anonymous browsing and use a proxy, could that be a solution? Just a suggestion, as the proxy would show you to be in another country, you can use free proxis, they are a pain in the proverbial, or pay a bit, they tend to be a bit easier.

Just installed that for use with Chrome. Works a treat on those annoying pop-ups when I'm browsing for filthy pics in order to help with my daily sausage time. Cheers for the tip :-)

Sunny: Google "getting around the great firewall." Similar techniques will probably work in your case.

pahunkboy -> RE: Hiding Ads (5/23/2011 7:40:12 AM)

How do you know the notes from the police are real?

sunshinemiss -> RE: Hiding Ads (5/23/2011 9:40:07 AM)

Why do you question my knowledge?

pahunkboy -> RE: Hiding Ads (5/23/2011 9:42:14 AM)

I never got an email from any police... and I get in plenty of hot water...

sunshinemiss -> RE: Hiding Ads (5/23/2011 9:55:07 AM)

I didn't realize that you live in Korea.

pahunkboy -> RE: Hiding Ads (5/23/2011 10:04:38 AM)

They really ought to be more like America.
