ORIGINAL: DarkSteven AFAIK, Rick Santorum is the only idiot that has called McCain on this. Santorum has stated that the intelligence used to catch bin Laden came from torture, not standard questioning, and McCain says the opposite. McCain has claimed that he spoke directly with intelligence officials, as a sitting US Senator. Santorum, having been voted out of office in a landslide, is a private citizen with no more access to intelligence than you or I. I have no reason to doubt McCain based on what Santorum said. Except that Dick Cheney was there (in office, not in the room) when the orginal intelligence was gathered and knows first hand how it was obtained, and has said enhanced interrogation was used. There is plenty of reason to doubt McCain. No offense, willbe, but Cheney has demonstrated that he has a unique perspective on the truth in that he feels it is an instrument that can be tweaked or ruptured if it makes him look better. Since leaving office, his sole objectives have been to defend his own performance and criticize Obama's. I would consider his statements only if he was uninvolved, which is not the case here.
