Aylee -> RE: highway numbering (5/17/2011 11:34:45 AM)

Thanks Greedy, but isn't all that info in the regular ol' McNally road atlas?

willbeurdaddy -> RE: highway numbering (5/17/2011 11:56:49 AM)

Or on every smartphone?

I would not know about that. I just seem to recall a section in the road atlas that talked about how the road numbering worked.

I do not have a smartphone. Mine is very stupid. I like it that way.

thishereboi -> RE: highway numbering (5/17/2011 1:20:11 PM)

That was cool. I knew about the even/odd numbering for north-south and east-west. But I never heard the rest of them. Thanks for sharing.[:)]

It probably went to a public school. [;)]

Edit: In New Jersey.

Aylee -> RE: highway numbering (5/17/2011 2:22:53 PM)

That could very well be. Drat those New Jersey public school phones!

And don't forget the mile markers:

A good thing to point out to the kids when they keep asking "are we almost there yet?"

Muttling -> RE: highway numbering (5/17/2011 6:01:15 PM)

Why does the story leave out the Cold War?    The inner state system was primarily created for civilian needs under the Eisenhower administration, but many parts of its design took into account needs during a world war.

TheHeretic -> RE: highway numbering (5/17/2011 8:25:59 PM)

It's a big story, Mutt, and that was a neat little tutorial. If it was going to take more time, I think it would be better spent explaining the concepts of the mile marker, and exit numbering.

Whoever likes their GPS better, I'll refer to my sigline.

sunshinemiss -> RE: highway numbering (5/18/2011 3:54:22 AM)

While I appreciate GPS, I rather enjoy getting a little bit lost...

GreedyTop -> RE: highway numbering (5/18/2011 5:45:02 AM)

Aylee, sure.. but not everyone travels, and of those that do, not everyone is interested in reading the non-map bits in the atlases ...
