Any suggestions on a compact camera for concerts? Decent video and better than decent audio? Theres a blues festival here next week and Ill be up front, but they wont allow anything professional looking in.

This is looking like the best from online research

Panasonic ZS10

Stereo mic and I think it records while zooming, though I would tend to set it and leave it

It has a huge advantage in that Costco carries it, which means no questions asked returns with no restocking fee if I dont like it and return it.

Okay, I like the 16x optical zooming (didn't think about the possibility you would want a still/video camera... which I honestly still believe is a mistake because you will ABSOLUTELY need a stand of some kind to shoot for long periods <an ergonomic issue all the tapers I know who have dabbled in video... they BITCH... and if a guy who can go FOB (front of soundboard) and hand mic an entire show bitches, you consumers are fucked and video is much much more fatiguing).
The audio on virtually EVERY still camera with video capability is total shit. Period the only thing you can put behind a pinhole and get CD quality audio is like a DPA (Danish Pro Audio) peanut add $600 - $1000 for the mics and reverse engineering of the camera. But most people will say "the audio sounds pretty good while recording and then, up comes a little breeze comes up and when you are playing it back, NUCLEAR WAR is what you're hear... cotton balls will help, but not as much as a video cam than has a dampening circuit built in... which I doubt any still camera will have.
    Otherwise, it looks okay.

Thanks. Ive already ordered a couple of options for mounting. Next week will actually be fairly easy because the festival is at the beach and strapping it to the arm of the beach chair should be fine. Ill need to have some shims to angle it right depending on where I wind up sitting, and thats about it. If things work I'll upload what I can of Experience Hendrix (it looks like Vai, Johnson and Lang will make this one, no KWS) and Tedeschi Trucks Band. The Tubes are in a couple of weeks and I think they'll let me set it on a table tripod.

Susan Tedeschi is a friend of mine... The  band that I've done all their 'live' recording for played her wedding (their productions called for someone who could do an outstanding job in tight quarters like small nightclubs)I've only met Derek twice, but he's a REALLY humble sweet guy. You'll have loads of fun at that show they sound excellent together.

Now THERE'S a conversation!

"How do you know him?"

"Some message board?"

"Which one?"
