Thanks, Kalikshama,

i've gone over to her house to specifically watch "my house shows" and read "my house books". Over the course of time she's gone from, "How could they live like that?!" to "I wanna fix this specific untidiness in my home."
i've also invited her over to mine to "show off" something i've organized and cleaned so she can see an example of how it makes life nicer.
It's all a bit sneaky, but she's decided that i'm "more educated" about tidiness than she since i'm "studying it" and it seems to be more effective when it's her idea to apply something to her own situation--i'm not a therapist or a professional organizer and i'm not necessarily the right person to bluntly confront her about it.  i need her to work out some of the darker parts of these habits for herself (and with her paid friend) and come to me for specific help.  We've built a shared google doc task list and she seems comfortable with the way it's progressing.  She's seen things get checked off that list and wants more now. She's given me full reigns, that list is gonna get really short soon. *grin*
i thank my lucky stars that she isn't a garbage-dirty stuff hoarder but more a someday-project, shiny-new-discounted-thing, imagined-future-that-hasn't-arrived-yet hoarder. i'm also really glad that she had hip surgery a bit ago and has dropped a lot of her "discomfort is okay" blues she had with all that hip pain.  She out-walks me these days, maybe someday she'll "out-neatnik" me too. :)

One Dom i had didn't care about any other space in the house besides the dishes.  If the dishes were done, He considered me done cleaning and ready for other sorts of service.  We had a row when He caught me sneaking out of bed in order to clean the bathroom once.  Quite embarrassing for the both of us.

Honestly, most of the households i've cleaned liked a bit of a lived-in feel and i like a bit of a lived-in/not showroom feel, myself.  i grew up in a very, very un-kept house, so take a bit of pride in learning what i have about cleaning, but feel out of sorts if the place seems too perfect, it's an odd sort of  "afraid to break it" feeling. i doubt my cleaning would live up to hausboy's UBER-CLEAN standards and it would be interesting to see in-person what he really meant.

Actually, my own house is not "UBER-CLEAN".  that would be nice...but I don't have the time. Sir's house is usually clean but not "uber-clean", except when I'm there for the day.  I don't go home until the place is uber-clean to his standards.....or my bum can't take any more....usually both.

Awareness -> RE: Of Dom/mes and Domestics... (5/12/2011 5:20:22 PM)

I actively enjoy chaos.  And while I enjoy the degree to which humanity has imposed its will on its environment, I really don't get off on spotless.

The place is hygienic - because that shit is important - and the main entertaining area is tidy, but there are pockets of chaos in various rooms.  Life is too short for me to give a flying fuck about minutiae.  I have the kind of brain which requires activity to keep from becoming bored and pedantry totally fails to do that for me.

Basically, the place is comfortable, not a fucking show home.  If a sub wants to turn herself inside out scrubbing the place, then I'll let her, but I'm hardly going to inspect the results afterwards.

I have selective standards meaning it varies by room. Kitchen and bathrooms are absolutely spotless. Car is spotless. Living room is tidy but I am not the mad fool dusting every nook and cranny. Bedroom is spotless. The study is more like organized chaos and the same with the garage with all my tools. I have a photographic memory so I do not need to put things in alphabetical order or other logical arrangement. I always remember where I put it last. That tends to drive others crazy.

Heh...I just spent six hours yesterday cleaning his kitchen. He is no longer allowed in there.

eta...he's gonna be reeallllly uncomfortable when I clean the bathroom and that becomes off limits too. [:)]

Hooo boy. I'm close to OCD about being neat.
I like things in their place, partly because it's aesthetically appealing, but mostly because I'm lazy-being organized saves me time and energy and allows me to accomplish more with a whole lot less stress.
That said, I'm super good at neat, but not so great at deep clean (Allergies being behind this)...grins...but hey, WTF are slaves for if not scrubbing the corners. :-)

txurinal -> RE: Of Dom/mes and Domestics... (5/14/2011 7:53:24 PM)

my MASTERS were pretty particular. They expected the house to be clean and orderly at all times. i was expected to tidy the kitchen and clean the bathrooms daily. Weekends were for more thorough cleaning such as vaccum, dusting, mopping, etc

i was a good housekeeper and rarely got complaints. In fact the last time i spoke with one of my former MASTERS, HE told me they now hired a cleaning lady but she was not half as good a housekeeper as i was for them. Of course, i doubt they threaten her with whippings if things are not done exactly the way them want them

SomethingCatchy -> RE: Of Dom/mes and Domestics... (5/15/2011 6:48:45 PM)

I've never really felt comfortable asking C to help clean the house, since I haven't had steady full time work in years, and have more than enough time on my hands to clean myself. There was a period of time where he was unemployed after the military and did help me with the kitchen, but I think my standards are a bit higher than his. He'd leave things obviously dirty, and when I cleaned that kitchen it was spotless.

Our current house is so old and dusty that I just refuse to do anything serious with it. I pick up the dog hair, don't let things get too cluttered, and keep the bathroom clean, but it's kind of pointless to spend every single day keeping on top of all the dust and dirt that floats in from the cracks in the walls, floors, and windows.

agirl -> RE: Of Dom/mes and Domestics... (5/15/2011 7:37:48 PM)

Yep, M cares a whole lot less. He considers me to be tidy and organised. (which I am)........We don't tend to spend much time considering the subject at all. We're usually too busy doing stuff we like.
