What are cool things to do? I am lost!

IrishMist -> RE: I just joined Second Life! (5/6/2011 8:26:44 AM)

Second life huh?

Enjoy your new fantasy, because that's all that piece of shit game is.

ParappaTheDapper -> RE: I just joined Second Life! (5/6/2011 8:37:02 AM)

Here are some things I enjoy, to help you make your suggestions:

Literature, fashion, punk music, hip hop, horror movies, the 1980s, bondage, talkin' shit nonstop, true crime, philosophy, baseball, wrestling, television, and making new friends!

Hillwilliam -> RE: I just joined Second Life! (5/6/2011 8:39:52 AM)

I have a hard enough time dealing with My first life to want to have another set of probs.

Ok, serious question...why?

Someone mention sl to me a couple years ago so I had a quick look. Maybe it's because I'm really not into computer games, except for silly ones like Mahjong Titans, but wouldn't those things be even more exciting if you tried to experience them in real life?

Mind you, I'm not talking about stuff like the 1980's....really, the John Hughes movies were cool...to a point...but the fashion sucked. Oh...and let's not even start on about the hairstyles....[8|].

NocturnalStalker -> RE: I just joined Second Life! (5/6/2011 10:38:10 AM)

Needs more gruesome mutilation.

I'm a huge dork at heart, and I'm betting on a long shot that SL may turn into an experience like being on message boards only more personalized and awesome. So I threw ten bucks at it, I'll spend a few hours on it, I'll shop around sundry places to see if anybody has good suggestions where to hang and what to do and see what happens.

Like my old man used to say, run it up the flagpole and see who salutes! :D

NocturnalStalker -> RE: I just joined Second Life! (5/6/2011 10:43:06 AM)

Oh shit, I just saw what this was... isn't this where fat people pretend to be good-looking people and bipedal canines?

Sometimes! But I'm an awesome dude pretending to be an awesome dude. I mean if I can ever get around to figuring out how it works and stuff!

NocturnalStalker -> RE: I just joined Second Life! (5/6/2011 10:47:04 AM)

I would get banned in two hours.

You must be some kind of prodigy! It's taken me longer than that to pick out a shirt and figure out how to make my dude move back and forth. Still don't know how to get that slicked back Gordon Gecko hair I'm craving!

hardcybermaster -> RE: I just joined Second Life! (5/6/2011 3:40:39 PM)

at least when you are playing SL you aren't bothering the rest of the world

needlesandpins -> RE: I just joined Second Life! (5/6/2011 3:44:20 PM)

if this is what i'm thinking of it was featured (or something like it) on a uk program where a woman became totally addicted to it. to the point of 'falling in love' with a guy from america (i think, it was a long time ago) and them getting married through the game even though they had never met. the program followed her leaving her family to visit him, only to find they didn't get on.

all a bit strange to me.

playfulotter -> RE: I just joined Second Life! (5/6/2011 3:50:49 PM)

There was a show on TLC channel here earlier this week about people with fantasies that are considered taboo...I joined there once years ago when a man told me it was a great place but I couldn't get into it after logging in a couple times..I was a  bit impatient to learn the whole scheme of things there...The man they featured in the show on TV actually was a married man who would go on there and have sex with his virtual wife and daughters and his real wife didn't mind..he actually was one of the game programmers for the site t...weird to me but some people really get into it.  NocturnalStalker is right though..that guy made himself look like such a stud on the site...LOL..to me he looked kind of like a Chippendales Dancer though..

needlesandpins -> RE: I just joined Second Life! (5/6/2011 4:02:28 PM)

i guess that it shows that if you are desperate for some sort of attention that you are lacking elsewhere, you can 'fall in love' with anyone. the virtual couple in the show i saw looked nothing like their avatar. again though, i guess that's the whole point. be someone/thing you are not in real life and have the percieved beauty of another too.

dangerous ground for some though i think.

I love SL!

Go to the Destination Guide and check out the events section.  You can find everything from live music to roleplaying games.  If you go to one of the club events, there should be plenty of people to chat with.  Just make sure you have a quality look (shape, skin, hair, AO, clothes) so you don't look like a rank n00b.  I strongly encourage you to go to some of the newbie orientation classes that are available.

If you want some other tips, feel free to PM me.

BKSir -> RE: I just joined Second Life! (5/6/2011 4:06:11 PM)

It does have its ups and downs, but, I met my last pet there, and although (due to borders and distance mainly) we didn't last, it was a great time and one I'll never forget while he was here with us. I still do love him dearly and always will. I have no regrets about it, and wouldn't hesitate to do it again if the chance arose.

Of course, it may not work the same for you or everyone else, but, it's worth a shot. It's no different than here, really, except that you can wander around virtually and do a few other things. Frankly, it's a glorified chat room in essence.
