Reminds me of when my daughter was a toddler. We had put gates up on the porch so she couldn't leave it and she had some toys outside. I walked out with her lunch to see a coyote lying 20' away watching her wistfully. Lunch was served inside.

It seems it got in through a doggie door. When I lived in Florida, gators were anywhere there was a body of fresh or brackish water. People had fences around their property not to keep their pets and children in, but to keep the gators out. Just seems to me that these people were asking for trouble having a doggie door in an area where there are gators.
Yeah, I had gators in the backyard when I lived in Fl. - I know what I'd say - dinner!

That's the problem with snakes, they are sneaky as snakes. A friend of mine found his snake in the trunk of his car about a year later, it was not happy.

One of my college roommates had a red tail boa that escaped while a friend was watching the house for us over Xmas break (he pushed out the bottom of the door to his enclosure). We turned the whole house upside down looking for him, but gave up after 2 weeks.

3 weeks later, I was watching TV when I heard a ruckus in the converted garage. I went to look, and found 5 feet of very hungry and mightily pissed off snake stretched between 2 boxes at the very top of the storage alcove.
After I put him back in his enclosure and warmed him up, he ate 3 rats and spent the next week in a 'food coma'. Needless to say, my roomie added extra locks to the top and bottom of the door after that!  [8D]

Up here, every so often someone comes to a weekend place and discovers a bear had been inside. If you're really unlucky, it's still there.

I'm still upset that last week when they found a bear in the city of Poughkeepsie, the DEC came and got it and removed it to my town. My son said "so what, they'll let it out up the mountain". I responsed "yeah and we live on that mountain which means it's going to turn up in our backyard". I've had bears try to break in before and when you call the DEC they don't listen. They assume you just saw one, not that it's at the back door smelling dinner. You have to call the cops and have them roust the rangers out.
