It will do it for me, personally, but I am not the president.

Selectivelight -> RE: Fix the country in 1 paragraph... (4/25/2011 11:12:16 PM)

Alright, OP. You caught my attention.

A number of factors contribute to the overall problem in this country. Slipshod efforts in education, a lack of comprehensive health care, market and industry with so few regulations that major corporations could basically get away with murder...

Many of these factors seem to stem from a socioeconomic imbalance. Our country exists as more an aristocracy than anything else. The wealthy decide the rules of the game, which seeks to ensure their continued prosperity and lack of competition from the unwashed masses.

My solution, in a single sentence;

Kill the rich and take our economy back.

Kidding aside, (and I am kidding.) the problem is really too complex for a single paragraph solution and I am probably going to look like an idiot for trying, but here goes;

quote:

The issue boils down to economics. When a corporation can ship all manufacturing jobs overseas, using components from half a dozen third world countries, and labor from partially industrialized China, then not only pay no taxes, but receive credits and preferential treatment, this is a problem.  We must regulate the economy, either force corporations to use American labor, or make them pay taxes to compensate for what they aren't doing for this country. Either way, we need to get more out of them than a place to throw our money away at. Our working class needs work. And I mean -work-. Building cars, designing computers, assembling, manufacturing, creating. We're missing the D of GDP. We must also regulate our taxes. We must end the days of unprecedented, unnecessary, and unconscionable spending. The first question should be "How does this benefit the nation?". The second question should be "Is this a tenable long-term solution to the problem?."

My solution, in a nutshell, is to cut a slice of a major corporation's multi-billion dollar annual profit (Walmart, as an example, boasted something akin to 13.5B in 2009. This is right in the middle of the rest of our economy tanking.) and then actually give a damn about how that money is used, instead of just throwing it from one boondoggle to the next.

As for my plans for the future, I look at it this way, I could work until I dropped and it wouldn't make a difference. I'm poor. I'm going to be poor, I get it. I won't ever have a Ferrari, and the only time I'll ever even see an Armani suit is if I'm being sued.

I plan to live within my means, surround myself with people that I love (and hopefully am loved by), and never outlive my usefulness. Beyond that, the rest of it is just details.

one paragraph....

  Send ALL the illegals home and have a 5 year halt on all immigration, set a severe penalty for illegally being in the USA illegally, execute EVERYONE with a 20+ year jail sentence without waiting, cut ALL politician salries by 50%, hold people accountable for bad deals and make them pay out of pocket for anything stupid, stop 100% of foreign aid ( let em fucking starve), stop selling out our identity by the liberals in the name of so called freedom, legalize drugs and crackheads and heroin addicts will kill them selves off, if you are positive for drugs you get NO government help, allow ccw in EVERY location and make defending yourself easier ( crackhead hunting season anyone lol)

Your ideas are horrifying, and won't fix anything.

First, as much as I disapprove of illegal immigration (and think it ought to be at the risk of one's own life) it isn't going to change the fact that corporate America is -legally- sending almost all of its manufacturing and industry jobs overseas. The unemployment figures might budge a half a percent over immigration, but you aren't fixing much.

Secondly, I once had that idea, death penalty for anything that would otherwise have been 20 years or more in prison. But the problem with that is that as soon as it becomes convenient, politicians and lawyers will be twisting the laws to have rivals, and opposition sentenced to death as a matter of convenience. Too much power for a single entity. The law is twisted enough without this.

Furthermore, cutting politician salaries won't do much good when you take into account the preferential treatment they get on behalf of big business. You want to do some good politically, then you could start by not allowing campaign donations. Make all these bastards run for office on C-Span and PBS.

Foreign aid as a target? We honestly don't send out much. Grain that was just going to rot in a silo. A handful of money. That wouldn't even scratch the surface of our poorly thought out government spending.

I don't even know where to begin with your gun and drug comments. It's hard to come up with a single succinct statement that expresses how crazy that sounds to me. The only thing "legalizing it" is going to do is put a lot more pushers on the streets. And if you're giving them ccw as well, then you can expect a lot more collateral damage from aforementioned dealers "negotiating business".

Well, I suppose we could embark on a national austerity program - rationing, wage/price controls, just like we did during World War II. It helped get us out of the Great Depression. It may not be fun, but it won't be fun either way you look at it. But if the country gets through it, we might be better off for it.

I don't think there's any quick fix. This mess we're in has been decades in the making.

http://www.nd.edu/~jstiver/jokes.htm
A physicist, a chemist and an economist are stranded on an island, with nothing to eat. A can of soup washes ashore. The physicist says, "Lets smash the can open with a rock." The chemist says, "Let’s build a fire and heat the can first." The economist says, "Lets assume that we have a can-opener..."

Experienced economist and not so experienced economist are walking down the road. They come across a pile of horse manure lying on the asphalt.

Experienced economist: "If you eat it I'll give you $20,000!"
Not so experienced economist runs his optimization problem and figures out he's better off eating it so he does and collects money.
Continuing along the same road they come across another pile of horse manure.
Not so experienced economist: "Now, if YOU eat this I’ll give YOU $20,000."
After evaluating the proposal experienced economist eats it and collects the money.
They go on. The not so experienced economist starts thinking: "Listen, we both have the same amount of money we had before, but we both ate horse manure. I don't see us being better off."
The experienced economist replies "Well, that's true, but you overlooked the fact that we've been just involved in $40,000 of trade."

Take Joechicago and the huge finacial-oil dick way up his ass out of the situation and I'll take the government after that. All Joechicago has to do is clinch his butt really tight and when we throw a frisbee he will drag them all with him as he chases it.

Deal?
