FullCircle -> RE: Couch surfing (4/16/2011 3:42:20 PM)

Pavement surfing is more fun because people throw coins at you. That a fact!

littlewonder -> RE: Couch surfing (4/16/2011 3:44:57 PM)

what is couch surfing bdsm society and how do you travel if you are sitting on a couch?

OrangeJulius -> RE: Couch surfing (4/16/2011 3:49:46 PM)

I think he means couch surfing as in, if I wanted to travel somewhere but can't afford a hotel, I contact someone in the city I'm planning on staying in to ask if I can sleep on their couch. I "surf" from couch to couch, sleeping in nice places instead of in my car.

Didn't you ever watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks?

Treguna, Makoidees, Trecorum, Sadis Dee!

Substitutiary locomotion!

ah ok...got it now. Thanks for the explanation.

I guess you can count me as a no way no how type of person.

I've met way too many kooky bdsm people to want a complete stranger to sleep on my couch just because we both like "bdsm".

I think you're dreaming.  Most people today would not want total internet strangers crashing on their couch.  I did it when I was 21, but those were different times, my friend.  If you love to travel, I'd look instead at Kink Friendly Bed n' breakfasts, or travel to leather events and make it a part of your vacation.

Couch surfing with strangers is as risky to you as it is to them.

good luck

On the hiking couch surfer sites you have to register with a credit card, so they at least have a verified name and address. I've only used the hiker sites.

http://www.couchsurfing.org/

This is the website I use, we host mostly people backpacking through America, and bands. Once we hosted a couple of airmen, which was fun. Most of the time the couch surfers clean up and cook, or at least take you to a bar.

But yeah, a way different crowd.

HannahLynHeather -> RE: Couch surfing (4/16/2011 5:06:23 PM)

i have done it on and off for years. its not particularly fun. the people are often unpleasant, and the couches are usually lumpy.

You are only meant to do it with consenting couches.

I mean like don't just sneak into someone's house and have a sleep on their 3PS. It's not the done thing.

I don't think he is.  It's more common for thru-hikers to stay in established hostels, or with friends they actually know.  If offered a place to stay, I think most thru-hikers prefer to tent on the lawn.  There are some sketchy people out there.

Been there and done that ages ago. But admittedly they were people i often conversed with and considered as friends. Given the time i've spent in the community both on and offline, i can't say the desire has ever struck. If anything i was pretty glad (usually after reading some diatribe) that we weren't well acquainted at all. When i think about going to someone's home i don't imagine myself sleeping on a couch. There's usually a spare room or we bunk together instead. The hospitality shown is because they desire my company and have probably extended an invitation. i'm not the crashing sort.

I'm too rich for this.

aromanholiday -> RE: Couch surfing (4/16/2011 8:25:00 PM)

It sounds like a very fun idea. I did this a little bit when I was young, too, but not in bdsm circles (the acronym didn't even exist then). I just randomly travelled someplace or went to a particular city to make a concert and on the way or when there, met strangers to crash with. Sure, it's got an element of danger, but IMO life's SUPPOSED to be dangerous, if you're really living it. [sm=friends.gif]
