Lately my email spam folder has been inundated with "2012" predictions. They almost seem to have taken over a religion to some people. I have found references to a "Galactic Alignment" which will trigger earthquakes, tectonic plates shifting and any number of catastrophes happening on 21 December 2012. The problem with this, after a bit of research, points out two flaws with the theory. First, the galactic alignment with the galactic center and equator is that its most precise convergence with the center of the Sun already occurred in 1998. So called biblical prophesies based on some code hidden in the old testament has been debunked, and on one history channel show, used the classic Moby Dick to make predictions. quote:
Five years ago, three Israeli scholars published the results of their search in the journal. As they explained, they took names of famous rabbis from a reference dictionary, applied letter sequences and found the names near the rabbis' dates of birth or death. Using the same technique, others have claimed the Bible contains secret predictions, including everything from the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin in 1995 to a Los Angeles earthquake in 2010. Major Bible scholars ignore the code because, they note, no one has a letter-by-letter version of the Bible as originally written. The oldest surviving manuscripts include slight variations, any of which would throw off computer test results. Scholars Debunk "Bible Code" Others have quoted Nostradamus as the source for the predictions, although many of his prophecies have been debunked, although it seems that many people still twist the words in his quatrains to suit various historic incidents. Then there is the Mayan calendar which people claim ends on 12/21/2012. Actually, the calendar starts a New Long Count with a new age beginning. Calendars don't end, they start over. Just look at any calendar purchased in a store, or does the day January 1 never recur? Besides, the end of the world has been predicted quite a few times, Library of Date Setters there are 220 dates and years listed. quote:
Mathew 24:35-36 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone."
