What the article, linked in the OP, reminded me of was an interview with two economists done quite some time ago (longer than I care to admit) where they predicted the demise of the middle class. They essentially said there would be the haves and the have nots and nothing else. Perhaps that is the crux of the article...not so much that the top 1% of the USA has so much wealth (although that is of concern) but the fact that the middle class is being eroded away. I know my standard of living is lower than that experienced by my parents. Poor planning on my part? That's part of it, to be sure, but not all of it.
