IrishMist -> Indiana passes first part of vote to ban same sex marriage and civil unions (4/1/2011 7:15:22 PM)

Sometimes, I think people are just plain idiotic in their idea's of what's 'right' and what's 'wrong'. I just really can not understand the mentality that comes up with the idea that a union between two people MUST be that of man and woman.

Someone explain it to me please, because I just can not figure this kind of small minded idiotic bullshit.

I think the government should not be involved in the bedrooms of the nation.

Crazy.  The Bible says you can have multiple wives and concubines.  And heterosexuals seem to do a fine job breaking up marriages without gay folks getting into the mix!

It's God's will.

And I'm sure a number of small minded idiots will be here shortly to explain that.

You and I just have to realize we are in a small minority when it comes to our feelings on homosexuality. Pushing now may not be the best choice. In a few years perhaps but not now. Like it or not homosexuality is considered a mental illness at best and a aberration of nature.

The vast majority look at homosexuality with disgust or indifference and do not believe they should have the rights of heterosexuals... It is the way it is and will remain for at least one more generation.

Your article states...

Text of proposed amendment
If approved by the 2013-14 General Assembly and then by Indiana voters the following language would be added to the Indiana Constitution:

Only a marriage between one (1) man and one (1) woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Indiana. A legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized.

Later on it includes...

A statewide public opinion poll conducted earlier this month for Indiana Equality Action found 47 percent of Hoosiers oppose the amendment, while 43 percent said they support it.

I dont know enough about the politics there. Will voters pass this?

It's really funny to me just how many right wing politicians and fundamentalist types become very much interested in the subject of a penis going near another guy's asshole.

I mean, if they are genuinely hetero, shouldn't it be a non-issue?

joether -> RE: Indiana passes first part of vote to ban same sex marriage and civil unions (4/1/2011 11:04:06 PM)

Let me get this 'straight'....

37 Republicans just spent a huge amount of time, money and energy, to barred a segment of the population that is lesss then 10%, from being a full US Citizen. Didn't these guys run on bashing Obama and the Democrats at a state & national level about the amount of jobs being created? Rather then deal with the problem, they'll just go spend taxpayer money on something that will be over turned in a few years (resulting in even MORE money being wasted). Are all the 'fiscal conservatives' in a coma in that state?

Marriage is not just a religious concept, its also a financial concept. Sooner or later, a couple will simply destroy the arguements in court, because their religion, allows same sex marriages. And since they are US Citizens, their freedom of religion will trump this state's stupid law.

So, what do we have to learn from all this kids? If Democrats waste money, its bad; but if Republicans do its 'okay'.

Sadly Miss Tazzy, yes, it will pass, despite the popular opinion of the general population.

And this is why I am so confused over this.

The popular argument against same sex marriage/civil unions is that it is 'morally corrupt'.
EXPLAIN THIS TO ME. Whose morality is it corrupting. Whenever this question actually comes up, the argument automatically reverts to religious reasons. Yet, if you listen to the flow of politics, it would be unconstitutional to deny this based on a religious concept.

/scratches head

I generally try not to get into politics because the reasoning behind most thinking here is just so screwed that it drives me batty...yet this is just totally blowing my fucking mind.

All I can come up with by way of an excuse is that it has to be money talking...contributions, businesses backed by close minded fuck heads...[8|]

Seriously though, if someone out there has the political know how to explain this to me, please do...because I am at a total loss.

While it may not be popular, I have stated before the gay community needed to go after "civil union" rights before tackling the "marriage" one.

Iri..., I will say this out here once.

KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED, THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE GOING ON.

Got it ? This shit is so old, come on. It is clearly a distraction. From what I do not know, but it is really just too lame to be an issue. In Indiana ? I mean I could understand Idaho or Georgia or ....., but then population density is also a factor.

That's the cake we get to eat.

T^T

Are you kidding???  Then they would have to actually do something, they would have to create a plan, (not a crazy one) and then actually follow it.  No way they will do this, hell all they care about is being re-elected

No it is much easier to preach Freedom, the Constitution, Democracy and Keep The Government Out Of Our Lives, then to actually DO IT

IrishMist -> RE: Indiana passes first part of vote to ban same sex marriage and civil unions (4/2/2011 5:02:32 AM)

I truly did not want this to become a discussion over 'personal' feelings about this. I really am interested in the political side of the proposal here.

From the pieces I can remember hearing on the news, it is my understanding that the general population within Indiana ( and I am not referring to the fuckhead politicians, I mean the actual general population) does NOT want this to become a part of the constitution. In fact, they are adamantly opposed to it.

YET, it has passed the first phase to becoming an amendment. Which to me, means that our wonderful elected officials are not following what WE, the general public want; they are following some other political agenda.

I just don't understand politics enough to understand how this could have even gotten as far as it has. THAT is what I am trying to understand.

What possible political agenda could be important enough for these elected officials to jepordize their seats by passing something that nobody wants passed? And yes, this is a hot issue in the state of Indiana.

Confusion and me do not sit well [>:]

HUH?????

And I do have a penis, and I'm rather proud of it.

But what does this have to do with the topic, or are you just somewhat confused?
