Lucylastic -> Megabus (4/1/2011 3:17:21 PM)

Has anyone heard good bad or ugly about the Megabus.com company??
Im contemplating surprising pet with a visit, but I have no desire to go thru airport hassles , but I dont know anything about the company apart from what is on their site and their blurb, has anyone had good or bad dealings with them?
their pricing is incredible(toronto to Washington DC) came at 8.50 for a return trip
Basically is this too good to be true?
Please feel free to cmail me if you dont wanna respond here:)
Thanks
Luce

I've ridden with Megabus. It's not that bad except that it gets extremely crowded and can be late at times but I've found the same to be true of almost every single bus company I've ever ridden with and that has been quite a lot of them.

Lucylastic -> RE: Megabus (4/1/2011 7:16:12 PM)

Thanks Littlewonder, Yes I have come to that conclusion, having looked at several airlines I have flown , both amtrack/via have similar complaints as does greyhound. So With flights being 3-600 bucks for the next couple of months Im going to save and go more often:)
I may do train and greyhound too, just to say Ive done it, lol
Thankyou:)

Megabus in the UK, uses same services as others, is just a lot cheaper and you cant miss connections.

Lucylastic -> RE: Megabus (4/1/2011 7:24:23 PM)

HehFrazzle, if theres a connection to be missed, I can miss it
Ive honed it into a fine art
I can miss a red light!

frazzle -> RE: Megabus (4/1/2011 7:26:31 PM)

LOL my son goes mad when i book with them, as he says ive never caught the right bus or train in my life.

I always get there eventually.[:D]

littlewonder -> RE: Megabus (4/1/2011 7:53:26 PM)

I use Amtrak all the time and love it. I wish more people would use it so that it can stay afloat.

Yes they run late from time to time but they're oh so much more comfortable, people aren't all frazzled nerves, everyone's relaxed and friendly and you can have a drink aboard the train and even a nice snack. And I love that they aren't crowded and lots of legroom and you can charge your phone or computer and use it while aboard the train. Other than cost which is a little more expensive, I don't understand why more people don't use it.

Since I discovered the joys of Amtrak, I rarely take a bus now unless I have no other choice but to do so.

CreepyStalker -> RE: Megabus (4/1/2011 8:39:42 PM)

You get what you pay for.

If you care about being on time (or less than about 2 hours late); or about being warm; or about taking a reasonably fast direct route; or about not having your transport break down leaving you sitting on the side of the motorway for an hour and a half till a replacement bus (actual rickety old obsolete-style London Transport double decker, not a coach bus) comes... then Megabus is not a good option.

If you're a cheap bastard who doesn't care as long as you get there eventually, go for it.

Lucylastic -> RE: Megabus (4/2/2011 11:50:54 AM)

In this case, ...cheap bastard takes over..at least once, Life is an adventure, and should be experienced!!!!!
I have several options, I can get a coach to buffalo and then fly cos the price is 2-300 bucks cheaper
Or I can take the train from buffalo
I have four possible destinations,
alll for under twenty bucks round trip
I dont drive, so in one year I get three five hundred trips to the US flying,
five fifteen hour  train trips
Or multitudes of trips for 20$ a shot and some inconvenience and travelling light
not taking valuables with me at least
but
I wont know till I try
and yes, its worth every hour whatever way I go

TheHeretic -> RE: Megabus (4/2/2011 12:07:01 PM)

Maybe I'm weird, Lucy, but I will hitchhike before I get on a cheap bus.

Lucylastic -> RE: Megabus (4/2/2011 12:09:11 PM)

HItchike, tried it got the scars, never again

stellauk -> RE: Megabus (4/2/2011 12:59:40 PM)

I somehow don't think Megabus could be as bad as one of the Anglo-Polish bus companies, beginning with 'A'.

I've once spent 49 hours travelling from London to Warsaw, usually a 26 hour journey. The driver was so bad that after landing at Ostend in Belgium he failed to find Brussels and instead took us to Rotterdam (from Ostend just drive in a straight line from the ferry port, onto the autoroute and you eventually arrive in Brussels, the capital).

After spending over an hour asking directions in Rotterdam we went via Maasstricht in Holland and ended up in Dortmund, still trying to find Brussels. We then spent a few hours waiting at a service station near Aachen while the company sent two Polish drivers from Poland to collect us.
The journey was so bad there were a few Poles clutching beads in their hands and praying.

The company of course put the couple up in a hotel and flew them to Poland the next day. It was like something out of Monty Python.

Lucylastic -> RE: Megabus (4/2/2011 2:58:18 PM)

I have large pictorial blank areas of that era of my life, thank gawd

but the memories tend to stay.

TheHeretic -> RE: Megabus (4/2/2011 4:30:30 PM)

Did I not start by suggesting I might be weird, Lucy? It isn't for everyone, but hitchhiking can be an amazing way to travel.

Lucylastic -> RE: Megabus (4/2/2011 4:45:21 PM)

Grins I took the weird as being part of your charm Rich:)[sm=hippie.gif]
To be honest, Im a comfort slut with regards to taking to the road now, Ill take a cold smelly bus over hangin outside  geting rained on, windswept and depending on dumbasses who think a woman on her own is asking for it.
Im too set in my ways to get any enjoyment out of it now. I hate travelling, I wanna be there right now!!!, I need a teleportation device like yesterday!!!!
Plus I hate dragging bloody luggage with me
