needlesandpins -> let's talk about leadership (3/28/2011 1:27:15 PM)

having read hippiekinkster's it's the end of the world as we know it thread i've been thinking....

i know alot of people who think they are very good leaders, however, they are not. they are usually bossy or hold a position where other have to do as they say. so like being a manager in a job rold doesn't always mean you're the best manager, thinking you are a good leader just because people do as you say doesn't mean you are good at it.

i can't abide people who think they are good and always seem to be saying that they are. those who spout orders and constanyly say things are not right. i prefer someone who is quiet about it and leads by example. someone who if you ask them questions they can tell you exactly what they mean, tell you why and are open to listening.

i'm happy to lead if i have to, but usually i won't put myself forward to, nore do i want to have to follow someone i don't respect though.

so on a personal basis, what sort of leader do you prefer?

One that inspires me to follow their example. I've known several amazing women in my life, that were great leaders.

I would lead everybody to the promised land.  With me you will rise and exalt, and without me you will die.

Why?  Because I got that INTENSITY!

One who listens to my counsel.

Leading should be done by shining force of personal example.........grampa always said.

Muttling -> RE: let's talk about leadership (3/28/2011 2:58:47 PM)

Food for thought....

A good leader is one who gets others to accomplish things that they wouldn't by themselves.

Good leadership has little to do with being liked or disliked, it has to do with accomplishments of goals.    Hitler was a horrid person with horrible ambitions, but he was a strong leader who was loved by the the masses.   Patton was a arrogant person with good ambitions, and a strong leader who was loved by most who served under him while despised by most who did not serve under him.

Leadership is a mixed bag.

However.......the OP asked about our personal preferences, not history.

Dumbasses will follow a dumbass.

Contrary to popular belief.......I am no dumbass. I can count on one hand the number of people that I personally believe are good leaders.

The douchiness runs high in this thread.

I am glad that grandpa is dead.

FukinTroll -> RE: let's talk about leadership (3/28/2011 3:05:53 PM)

This is a very subjective topic, however what I do is look at the task at hand and assign the various responsibilities to the most able/capable. As I said on HK's thread, I can walk into a jungle with my shoe-strings and build a shopping mall, it is a fact. There is nothing that I cannot build or repair and very few subjects that I do not have, at least, a functioning knowledge of. But I also understand that deference is my greatest ally in any endeavor and will happily defer the responsibility of X to the most able/capable person.

YMMV

Slurp~

heartcream -> RE: let's talk about leadership (3/28/2011 3:24:55 PM)

If I could create a leader I could believe in it would be someone who was not an egomaniac, out of touch with their own vulnerability and weakness yet prey on this in others. It would need to be someone conscious. If not very conscious, then someone who will listen to others and not need to be right for the sake of being right. Someone who has compassion and the ability to empathize with other folks. Someone real and true to who they are, spontaneous, subjective and an all around swell sweetheart of a person.

NocturnalStalker -> RE: let's talk about leadership (3/28/2011 3:33:02 PM)

Then you reached Earth and realized none of that was possible.

Termyn8or -> RE: let's talk about leadership (3/28/2011 3:48:09 PM)

A true leader is actually a servant. By performing that service well, he derives his true power directly by consent of those who choose to follow.

Nothing less, nothing more.
